Bus tours visit Chattanooga battle sites

Sunday, January 1, 1905

Battle of Chattanooga Bus Tours, commemorating key sites in the locally fought conflicts, have been scheduled for two Saturdays, May 4 and June 1, with additional dates to be added in July and August.

The 90-minute tour begins with a brief history of the city's founding and its role during the war. Pivotal events of the war up to 1863 are detailed, as well as the strategic goals of both armies and their leaders. The route takes participants by several state historical markers and monuments. Stops include historic Orchard Knob, the Bragg Reservation on Missionary Ridge and National Cemetery, where more than 12,000 Union soldiers are buried.

Tours are from 10 to 11:30 a.m. starting at 503 Market St. (same lot as Chattanooga Ducks). Cost is $30.

The company, Urban Battle Tours, offers similar history tours in Atlanta, Nashville, Charleston, S.C., and Charlotte, N.C.
