DIRECTIONS TO JOHNSTON PARK
From I-75, take Cleveland Cxit 25 and travel east on Highway 60 (25th Street). In about a mile, look for Ocoee Street and turn right. Follow Ocoee into downtown Cleveland. Johnston Park is two blocks south of the Bradley County Courthouse.
Evening Shade, a concert series held every Friday in May, returns for its 19th season with a musical palette that ranges from Broadway to bluegrass.
The season opens Friday, May 3, with Chattanooga Irish band The Molly Maguires. Music begins at 6:30 p.m. at Johnston Park in downtown Cleveland, Tenn.
"The Molly Maguires bring a unique interpretation to songs from the 17th century to the 21st century," said event organizer Kyle Elrod. "They will bring traditional Irish tunes with a rock 'n' roll attitude to the park for a fun evening."
Opening act is Erisa Rei, who performs roots-rock/Americana music.
The free series is presented by the Allied Arts Council of the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce.
Still to come are the quintet of brothers known as Spencer's Own on May 10, with the Walker Valley High School Mustang Jazz Combo as opening act; award-winning gospel/bluegrass group The Isaacs on May 17; the Greater Cleveland Community Band on May 24, performing excerpts from its "Broadway Off Broad Street" show; and Ron Dante, the lead singing voice for the animated group The Archies, on May 31, with opening act Stevie G and the Rockerz.
"All you need to do is bring a chair or blanket and your family or friends to enjoy an evening of good music, free of charge," said Elrod.
