Lee University's Dominique Hannah was voted softball player of the year in the Southern States Athletic Conference, and Laurel Allen and Ana Coscorrosa from the East Division-winning Lady Flames joined her on the all-conference first team. Four other schools had as many or more selections on the 22-player list, led by West Division champion Auburn-Montgomery and East runner-up Brenau with four each. Amanda Lynn, Jennifer Ringle and pitcher Angie Hughes made the all-division team and Lynn, Hughes and Caroline MacAusland were all-freshmen selections from Lee, which beat William Carey 10-2 in five innings in the SSAC tournament Thursday evening in Columbus, Ga. Volleyball

• Rebekah Minear, a home-schooled student in Atoka, Tenn., signed a letter of intent this week to play volleyball at Tennessee Temple University. Minear is a 5-foot-9 setter with three years of experience in the sport, and she has been a part of the Memphis Metro club organization. She wanted to go to a Christian college because she plans a ministry career in music and/or counseling, and she also considered Southwestern Assembly of God University in Texas and looked at Liberty in Virginia. About Temple, she said, "I like how small and cozy it is, and everyone knows each other. And I clicked with the coaches." Head coach Latonia Allen said she put Minear through drills in a campus visit and then watched her in a club tournament and was delighted to see her already incorporating some of Allen's tips. "I like it that she's got some height, and she has the potential to keep improving," Allen said. "And she's the type of kid who wants to be here."
