Barons knock off Chattanooga Lookouts twice

HOOVER, Ala. - A long road trip for the Chattanooga Lookouts became longer Saturday night when Birmingham won 8-0 and 3-2, starting with the resumption of Friday's game that was suspended with the Barons leading 4-0 in the fourth inning.

Cody Puckett homered off Kyle Cofield in the bottom of the fourth to continue the rout, and Mike Blanke and Andy Wilkins added RBI singles in the next two innings. Five Barons pitchers combined on a one-hitter, with C.J. Retherford getting the lone hit for the Lookouts in the second inning.

In the seven-inning game that followed, a Blake Smith sacrifice fly in the seventh resulted in a 2-2 tie for the Lookouts (11-18) that forced extra innings. The Barons won it in the eighth when Marcus Semien led off with an infield hit, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a single to left field by Wilkins.

The finale of the five-game series is today at 4 p.m. EDT. Aaron Miller (0-1, 4.02 ERA) is scheduled to start on the mound for the Lookouts, with Stephen McCray (4-1, 2.30) scheduled for the Barons.
