Bassnectar, who was born Lorin Ashton, is one of the most successful and sought-after artists in the electronic dance music. He continues to sell out venues across the country during his current tour.

In fact, six of his next seven shows, including the one Sunday, May 12, at Track 29 are sold out.

What fans apparently like is the mixture of genres the DJ/producer/artist pulls from for his tracks.

Bassnectar fans have come to expect songs featuring metal, hip-hop, punk, dubstep and the occasional pop lyric. In fact, part of the fun is picking out recognizable samples.

Originally a death-metal drummer, Ashton attended his first rave in 1995 and became instantly hooked on EDM.

He started promoting a series of shows in and around San Francisco. According to his online bio, he also bought a couple of turntables and started collecting records, and a career was born.

A Bassnectar show is known for pulsing beats, clever sampling and a hi-tech light and laser show.
