Matthew Shipp Trio at Barking Legs

Sunday, January 1, 1905

One of the most acclaimed jazz pianists of the past two decades will perform Friday, May 10, at Barking Legs Theater, 1307 Dodds Ave.

Matthew Shipp, who has been described as "one of the leading lights of a new generation of jazz giants," will bring along the two players who complete the Matthew Shipp Trio: bassist Michael Bisio and drummer Whit Dickey.

The musicians have been widely praised for adventurous, dynamic performances. Their 2011 double album, "Art of the Improviser," which features a live set by the trio alongside a solo set from Shipp, received universal acclaim and graced numerous year-end Top 10 lists, with several No. 1 placements.

Shipp played a solo performance at Barking Legs in 2011. This is the trio's first show in Chattanooga. Shipp will be playing the theater's 1916 Steinway grand piano.

The show is presented by Flying Fingers Productions and the Shaking Ray Levi Society. Tickets are $15 in advance, $17 at the door.
