Soddy-Daisy High School senior Kylee Saunders is heading to Union College in Barbourville, Ky., to continue her bowling career. She is getting both academic and athletic scholarship money after having been a fixture in the state individual tournament during her years with the Lady Trojans.

"She has all the physical attributes to do well," Soddy-Daisy coach David O'Malley Sr. said Tuesday. "She has a good sense of timing, a good sense of direction, and she knows what to do with the ball and what alleys do for you and against you. Her success will depend on the mental game, which is almost always the case for bowlers, and that comes with maturity and experience, which she will get in college."

Union coach Chelsea Gilliam said by phone that Saunders "has great form and rolls the ball really well, and she has a good spare shot. And she seems open to trying new things. I think she has a lot of potential."

Saunders, who plans to major in biology, said Bethel University in McKenzie, Tenn., also recruited her. "I just like the atmosphere at Union. The classes are really small, and it's like a family," she said.

"Kylee is very conscientious," said chemistry teacher and team sponsor Brian Gabor. "I remember seeing her practicing when she was in the eighth grade, before she came to the high school, and being impressed. I've been pleased with her work ever since."
