Two dates this weekend are key for anyone with the vocal chops to become "Chattanooga's Voice."

The pop singing competition will award a $1,000 cash prize, a studio demo recording session and the chance to perform the national anthem at the Chattanooga Lookouts game on May 26.

But first you have to sign up. There's no charge to enter, but there are only 75 slots available. You'll need to register in person between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday, May 17, at the Chattanooga Theatre Centre, 400 River St.

Then you'll have to audition, assuming you're one of the 75. A cappella auditions will be from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, May 19. From this audition, 10 singers will be selected to compete for the title on Thursday, May 23.

That gala event will start at 6 p.m. at the Theatre Centre, with entertainment, drinks and heavy hors d'oeuvres from Events With Taste. The competition starts at 7 p.m., when the 10 finalists will perform before a live audience. A live auction also will be held.

Cost to attend the gala is $100 (a portion is tax-deductible).

A limited number of "show only" tickets will be available for $25. To purchase tickets for the gala, call the box office at 423-267-8534.
