Wednesday film series at Jewish Cultural Center

Five Jewish-themed, award-winning films produced in Israel and the United States will be shown on consecutive Wednesdays beginning May 22 at the Jewish Cultural Center, 5461 North Terrace. Films are suitable for ages 16 and older.

First up is "A Bottle in the Gaza Sea," presented in Hebrew with English subtitles. In this film, the 17-year-old daughter of French immigrants to Israel throws a bottle into the sea near Gaza with a message asking for an explanation for the bombing of a local café. When a 20-year-old Palestinian boy discovers the bottles and tries to answer her question via email, they develop a friendship.

Remaining films in the series are "Making Trouble" on May 29, "The World Is Funny" on June 5, "Hava Nagila (The Movie)" on June 12 and "The Other Son" on June 19.

Screenings begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 and include complimentary popcorn and soft drink.
