The Chattanooga City Council on Tuesday night approved in a 9-0 vote a three-month extension for the 2013-14 fiscal year budget.

Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke's administration asked for more time to prepare the budget because of a complete restructuring of city government. Berke created three new departments and cut four others.

The extension lasts until September, but the mayor's administration has said it plans to give the new city budget to the council by July 30. The council then will have two weeks to review the budget, and the administration is looking for the budget to be approved by the end of August.

City officials have not said whether next year's budget would be more than, less than or the same as this year's $206 million budget.

The council passed the measure without discussion.

In other news, the council office announced it would be streaming council committee and business meetings weekly on Tuesdays.
