MARYVILLE, Tenn. — A change in state law means that officials are no longer cracking down on restaurants selling takeout craft beer.
The Daily Times reports the new regulations mean the Smoky Mountain Brewery in Maryville is now serving “growlers” again. Growlers are jugs filled with draft beer that customers can take with them when the leave.
State regulators began cracking down on the practice earlier this year, which led to complaints from restaurants and patrons.
The Copper Cellar family of restaurants stopped selling takeout beer in all four of its East Tennessee locations for a time, but made changes in some locations that allowed sales to resume before the new law was passed.
Now, all their locations are able to offer the beer for off-site consumption.
