The second-seeded Lee University baseball team outlasted tournament host Lewis-Clark State University 14-11 in Saturday's late game in the NAIA World Series and is scheduled to face third seed Embry-Riddle at 9:30 p.m. EDT on Monday.
It was the 12th win in a row and the 50th in 60 games this season for the Flames, who struck for six runs and a 6-2 lead in the top of the second inning but gave up a six-run third to LCSU. Lee went up 9-8 on a bases-loaded Corey Davis triple in the fourth, broke a 10-all tie with catcher Danny Canela's two-run home run in the sixth and added another two runs in the seventh.
Canela was 3-for-4 with four RBIs - he singled in two in the second - while Josh Silver was 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Lee leadoff man Brady Renner doubled in a run and scored four, and Karsten Strieby homered and matched Brandon Rader with two hits and two runs scored.
Bobby Joe Tannehill and Jake Shirley each doubled among three hits and scored twice for Lewis-Clark State (42-14), and Tannehill and Kyle Blackwell had three and two RBIs.
Keegan Yuhl (4-1) got the pitching win after working four innings with five hits and two runs allowed, and striking out five batters, and closer Andy Hillis allowed one hit and one run in his two innings.
Earlier Saturday, top-seeded Faulkner from Lee's league won 2-0 over the Missouri Baptist team that kept 2012 champion Tennessee Wesleyan from returning to Lewiston, Idaho. Faulkner faces The Master's College at 6 p.m. EDT Monday in the double-elimination event.
