Bradley EMS honored

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Bradley County Emergency Medical Service was awarded the EMS Star of Life Award for 2013 last week in ceremonies in Nashville, according to a news release.

The service was recognized for its Jan. 23, 2012, response to Rubbermaid in Cleveland, when plant employee David Simonds suffered a cardiac arrest. The key to Simonds' survival was the quick activation of 911 and implementation of the on-site AED by John Montgomery and Jim Floyd, stated the release by Stan Clark.

Star of Life winners were chosen from each of the eight EMS regions in the state. This is the fourth year Bradley County EMS has won the award since its inception five years ago.


13 people injured in 3-car crash

FRANKLIN, Tenn. - Authorities said 13 people were injured in a three-car crash Saturday on Highway 96 in Williamson County.

According to WSMV-TV, the accident occurred about 5:45 p.m. when a minivan carrying 11 people clipped a vehicle, then crashed head-on into another car.

Officials said two adult passengers from the minivan and two adults from the vehicle it hit head-on were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, where they were listed in critical condition.

The remaining minivan passengers also were taken to Vanderbilt: seven 16-year-old girls, a 2-year-old and a 1-year-old. Their conditions were unknown.

Officials said none of the minivan passengers was wearing proper restraints, and neither was the driver of the second car.


Teen admits part in boat accident

GAINESVILLE, Ga. - An 18-year-old has admitted he may have been involved in a hit-and-run boating accident on Lake Lanier that sent two people to the hospital.

A spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the teen and his father went to the Hall County Detention Center to issue a statement. The son admitted hitting something Friday but said he did not see or hear anything, DNR spokeswoman Melissa Cummings said Sunday.

The victims were in a jet boat. Both were in stable condition at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.


Three charged in meth case

ATHENS, Ala. - Limestone County authorities arrested two men and a teenage girl on a houseboat in the Elk River on drug-related charges.

Authorities told the Athens News-Courier the three were charged with possession of items used to make methamphetamine.

The three charged were Charles David Greenway, 28, of Athens, Tenn.; Jason Brewer, 33, of Lynnville, Tenn., and Megan Hodge, 19, of Athens, Ala.
