Softball

• Maddie Monroe from Calhoun, Ga., improved her 2013 pitching record to 28-2 with Reinhardt's eight-inning 2-1 victory over Auburn-Montgomery in the NAIA women's softball championship tournament Monday at Columbus, Ga. Monroe, who gave up eight hits and four walks with three strikeouts, had the bases loaded when she got the final out in the bottom of the eighth after singles by Alexis Chumbler, Haley Brannon and Kelsley Floyd off Cassie Daniels (23-6) put the Eagles (45-8) ahead in the top of the extra inning.

Track & Field

• In addition to the two Lee University women's runners already reported as NAIA All-Americans from last weekend's national outdoor track and field meet at Marion, Ind., Bryan College had one All-American for a top-eight finish. Sophomore Connor Hatfield finished seventh in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase with a personal-best time of 9 minutes, 15.44 seconds. Lions teammates Anthony Simpson and Jason McLeod were 11th and 12th in the 10,000 run.

Golf

• After 11 years with Krystal as its presenting sponsor and food provider, the Betty Probasco FCA Golf Classic was in dire need of new major sponsorship when Krystal followed its ownership change by moving out of Chattanooga. But Bi-Lo has become the presenting sponsor for the June 11 tournament at Council Fire Golf Club, and Bojangles is the "platinum" sponsor and will serve breakfast and lunch to participants. "We are so thankful for regional Bi-Lo leaders as well as Don Jones, whose BoSouth business owns and operates Bojangles from Dalton to Cleveland," area Fellowship of Christian Athletes director Jay Fowler said in a release. "We are also very grateful to have Betty Probasco so involved with our event and with our ministry as she has been for so many years." Anyone interested in playing or hole sponsorships should see www.chattanoogafca.org or call Fowler at 309-4255.
