Two men shot in the leg minutes apart on opposite sides of Chattanooga

Two men were shot in the leg in two separate shootings minutes apart last night, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Police Department.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. police found 21-year-old Ashton Ammonds at 2200 Bennett Avenue. It was reported to detectives that Ammonds was sitting on the front steps to a residence when he was shot and a suspect fled the scene.

Seven minutes later, Chattanooga police responded to another shooting at 2218 E 27th Street Court where they found 19-year-old Shannon Cooley suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. Cooley reportedly told detectives that he was standing outside with a group of people at East Lake Courts when the suspect shot him and fled the scene.

It is unknown at this time if these shootings are related.
