Mocs' Fox, Robb are All-East Region
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior Steven Fox and junior Chris Robb earned PING All-East Region honors for their successes this season.
Fox earned the honor last year, but it is a first for Robb.
This is the sixth straight year UTC golfers have been named to the team and the fifth straight with two Mocs on the squad. Stephan Jaeger made the team each of his four seasons, and Derek Rende made it three times.
Lee University junior Courtney Shelton from Franklin, Tenn., was announced Tuesday as an NAIA first-team golf All-American, and senior teammate Sloane Skinner from Lexington, Ky., was a second-team All-American. The Lady Flames' Madison Alexander received honorable mention. Shelton is a repeat choice.
The Tennessee Golf Association will begin more than a yearlong celebration of its centennial the weekend of June 22-23 at The Honors Course. That Saturday evening will include cocktails, dinner and a fireside chat with Golf Channel analyst Charlie Rymer from Clevelan d and 202 U.S. Amateur champion Fox from UTC. Spitalny 4th in SoS
Chattanooga's Neil Spitalny placed fourth in the Society of Seniors International three-day tournament last week at Waterville Golf Links in southwest Ireland. Spitalny tallied a total of 83 points on the Stableford system, including a 36-point final round, to finish nine points off the lead.
Nix to Dalton State
Covenant College golf standout Levi Nix has transferred to Dalton State. Nix, who grew up in LaFayette, Ga., will begin playing for Roadrunners coach Ben Rickett this fall in the NAIA school's first season of competition.
NGI closes today
Applications close today for the North Georgia Invitational to be played Saturday and Sunday at Dalton Country Club. They are available at www.IfYouLikeGolf.com or by calling the pro shop at 706-359-5911. The entry fee of $135 covers a free practice round and two competitive rounds that will be pre-flighted by handicaps. Carts and lunch also are included.
Matthew Kranz scored his first hole-in-one Saturday at Bear Trace at Harrison Bay. He aced No. 4 from 130 yards with an 8-iron as Thomas Kranz, Kevin Kranz and Megan McCarter witnessed.
John Arms sank his second career hole-in-one Wednesday at Creeks Bend. He aced No. 9 from 143 yards with a 9-iron with Charlie Stone, Steve Sutton and Todd Garez watching.
