A band with an unassailable pedigree in soul, funk and psychedelic music will perform Friday, May 31, at Memorial Auditorium. The concert by The Family Stone, a modern spinoff of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame supergroup Sly and the Family Stone, benefits the Chattanooga Firefighters Association, Local 820.

The Family Stone features three founding members of the original group: saxophonist Jerry Martini, trumpet player Cynthia Robinson and drummer Greg Errico. The band is fronted by vocalists Alex Davis, who also plays keys, and Trina Johnson Finn. Rounding out the group are guitarist Nate Wingfield and music director Blaise Sison on bass.

Their energetic sets present the full array of classic hits, including "I Want To Take You Higher," "Everyday People," "Hot Fun in the Summertime," "Family Affair" and "Sing a Simple Song," along with "Dance to the Music" and "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)." The latter two are among the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll.

Opening the show is Hey Elsten, a singer, songwriter and guitarist.

The Chattanooga Firefighters Association is the labor organization for the Chattanooga Fire Department.

Ticket purchases help the nonprofit with various programs, including distribution of smoke detectors; disaster relief for families displaced by fires or other tragedies; community outreach to local charities; and ongoing efforts to prevent injury and death in the line of duty.
