Artists within a 75-mile radius of Athens, Tenn., are invited to submit their work for the Community Artists' League's 38th annual Juried Competition and Exhibit.

Entries will be accepted 4-7 p.m. Friday, May 31, in the E.G. Fisher Library Community Room, 1289 Ingleside Ave. The works will be on view June 2-30 in the library's Goldie Mayfield Gallery.

Acceptable mediums are original works of painting (including mixed media, oils, acrylic and watercolor), drawing (pencil or charcoal), photography, collage, sculpture or pastel. All work must have been completed after January 2011 and not entered in a previously juried competition at the Goldie Mayfield Gallery/E.G. Fisher Library.

All art must be no larger than 48 by 48 inches, including frame, and must be wired and ready for hanging (no saw-tooth hangers). Three-dimensional works will be accepted, but only floor space or wall space is available to feature the entries.

Artwork done as a class or workshop assignment is ineligible. Works must be suitable for viewing by a general audience. No mechanical prints, commercial kits or hobby or craft kits will be accepted.

Entry fee is $15 for members, $20 for nonmembers. Each artist may enter a maximum of two pieces.

Cash awards will be presented for first- through third-place and best of show. Gift certificates or merchandise may be awarded for honorable mentions. Awards will be presented at a reception at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 2.

Works may be for sale, but they must remain on display throughout the exhibition period. The CAL will receive a 10 percent commission from all sales.

The juror for this year's exhibit is Elaine Davis, an art fellow and instructor at Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn.
