The Tennessee Highway Patrol has confirmed to the Times Free Press and WRCB that a 9-year-old girl was struck by a car at the intersection of Spring Place Road and Hughes Lake Road in Bradley County. The incident happened outside a gas station/convenience store about 2 p.m. today.

Lt. Carey Hixson with the Tennessee Highway Patrol spokesman said investigators reviewed the convenience store's security camera footage, which appeared to show the girl crossing the street by herself. She looked left, then right, and allowed a car to pass. After this car passed, she looked left and started to cross but was struck by a Jeep Cherokee.

No information was immediately available about the Jeep's driver or the vehicle's speed.

The video indicated the girl went into the store herself to buy a beverage, then left by herself. Hixson could not confirm if anyone was watching her at the time.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol's Critical Incident Response Team was summoned and the girl was taken to Erlanger hospital by ambulance. No information regarding her condition was immediately available, but officers are following up with the family at Erlanger.
