Baylor Swim Club seniors Sam McHugh and Lucas Kaliszak from Baylor School and Mathias Porter from Signal Mountain High swam nationally ranked times Saturday in the Martha Bass Invitational meet at the Baylor Aquatic Center. McHugh, recently named the Southeastern Swimming swimmer of the year, had the nation's seond best 400-yard individual medley for an 18-year-old this year (3:56.6) and the fifth best 200 freestyle (1:40.30) and sixth fastest 100 butterfly (49.5), setting pool records with all three. Kaliszak also set a pool record with the fourth best 100 backstroke for an 18-year-old in the United States this season. Porter had the fourth best 200 breaststroke for a 17-year-old.
The UTC volleyball team lost 3-1 in a Southern Conference home match Sunday against Davidson. Mocs junior Kasey Talley had six of her team's 10 blocks in the 25-16, 19-25, 27-25, 25-18 loss.
• The Sewanee volleyball team completed its regular season Sunday with a 3-0 win against visiting Huntingdon. Jamie Sue Wilson led the offense with 15 kills as the Tigers swept to the 25-12, 25-15, 26-24 win, and Diamond Stewart added 11 kills.
• Covenant College defeated both LaGrange and Huntingdon 3-0 in USA South volleyball matches Saturday at Maryville College. Hannah Rogers and Chelsea VanDyk had 11 and nine kills while Stephanie Kirkpatrick had 27 assists in the 25-11, 25-13, 25-16 rout of LaGrange, and VanDyk registered 10 kills and Rogers had seven to go with Kirkpatrick's 16 assists in the 25-22, 25-23, 26-24 win over Huntingdon for the Lady Scots (19-10, 11-5).
• Fifth-seeded Averett University advanced to the semifinals of the USA South men's soccer tournament by winning 5-3 on penalty kicks after a scoreless tie Saturday night at fourth-seeded Covenant. Nathan Brown had the deciding PK. Shuler Polk made 11 saves for Covenant (11-6-3), which was outshot 29-25 but had an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
• The Sewanee soccer teams split a pair of 1-0 Southern Athletic Association games Saturday at Centre. Christian Gonzalez scored 7:16 into overtime in the men's game for Sewanee (8-7-2, 3-4), which was outshot 31-11 and outcornered 11-1 but got eight saves from Holden Foster. Olivia Glascoe had 12 saves for the female Tigers (10-5-1, 3-3) against Centre (13-4-2, 5-0-1), which also had an 11-1 margin in corner kicks with a 22-6 advantage in shots and scored in the 83rd minute.
• Bryan College goalkeeper Stephanie Gagnon made nine saves in a 1-0 AAC women's soccer loss Saturday against visiting Union College, which scored 25 minutes into the second half. Bryan is 6-10-1, 1-8-1 in the league.
• Aaron Moore's 20 points led Hines Academy from North Carolina to a 66-61 basketball win Saturday against Georgia Northwestern at the Rossville Athletic Complex. For the Bobcats (0-1), Tavish Reynolds and Richard Olsen scored 18 and 16 points with four 3-point goals apiece. Those two and Hunter Ivester were preseason second-team all-star choices in NJCAA Region XVII.
• Counting a 70 by Brian Owens and 71s by David Noll Jr. and Chase Jones in the final round Sunday of the Georgia Team Championship golf tournament matching amateurs from clubs throughout the state, Dalton Golf & Country Club surged to a three-stroke victory at The Georgia Club in Statham. Dalton G&CC was two strokes behind Houston Lake CC after Saturday's four-ball tournament but finished with a 15-under-par 345 and its third title. Houston Lake was second, one stroke ahead of the host club, and defending champion Cartersville CC tied for fourth with Berkeley Hills at 350.
• Sewanee won 4-3 in overtime in SAA field hockey Sunday at Hendrix College after falling 4-0 at Rhodes on Saturday, when the Lynx scored three goals in the first 16 minutes, the last two of those by McKenna Wilson. Sunday, Maggie Boozer recorded a hat trick with three goals, and Karen Dawson scored the game-winner in the extra period get get the win for the Tigers.
• Sewanee finished second to Centre out of eight teams in the women's race and fourth in the men's 8k in the SAA cross country meet Saturday at Rome, Ga. Sewanee's Willow Smith and Ansley McDurmon were seventh and eighth with Amy Lee 14th in the 6k. Senior captain Jason Grimes led the male Tigers with an all-conference 15th-place finish.
• The Tusculum College football team lost 60-20 at 19th-ranked UNC Pembroke on Saturday, but Tusculum receiver Justin Houston from Bradley Central High School caught 14 passes for 172 yards.
