Former West Tennessee track coach sentenced in statutory rape

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A former West Tennessee track coach has been sentenced to 90 days for statutory rape of a 14-year-old girl who was a member of the track team.

Shelby County Criminal Court Judge Bobby Carter sentenced 29-year-old Arlen C. Wilburn on today. Wilburn pleaded guilty Sept. 30 to aggravated statutory rape.

Wilburn's defense attorney declined through email to comment on the case.

Wilburn had been a track coach at Sherwood Middle School in Memphis.

Prosecutors said in a news release that Wilburn will also be on probation for four years, will have to register as a sex offender and complete sex offender counseling. He's also prohibited from working around children and banned from attending school events.
