Jumpstart your holiday shopping while enjoying a party thrown by Riverview retailers tonight, Nov. 7, when they kick off their annual Holiday Hoopla shopping weekend.

All of the stores in the Riverview quadrant of Hixson Pike and Hanover Street are hosting in-store preview parties with food, fun and discounts. Then Friday and Saturday, Nov. 8-9, stores will continue to offer discounts to shoppers during their regular hours of operation.

Each store manager has set his/her own preview party hours and themes. Nicole Kelly, store manager of Hanover Blue men's wear, says its preview party will be held 5:30-8:30 p.m. with hors d'oeuvres and store-wide discounts.

Down the street at The Clay Pot, Joe Jumper is hosting a preview party from 6 to 9 p.m.

"We're calling ours 'A Quirky Christmas ... a little off in a good way,'" he says. "We're having a DJ playing holiday tunes, the staff is dressing up and the store will be filled with Christmas arrangements. We always do our fun holiday photo shoot - it's a surprise cut-out for guests to put their heads through. We'll take 300 to 500 pictures tonight. And at 7:30, everybody is going to learn the Joe Joe Shuffle right out in the street.

"Each store is doing different discounts, different themes, but most everybody is giving away door prizes at their preview party. We're just trying to create a fun neighborhood atmosphere and encourage people to visit the new shops as well as the old," he says.
