Trans Fats

about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

We need government to control trans fats. We should use France as our healthcare model.

Don't listen to the financial news...

France is very vulnerable now -- if you look at the debt-to-GDP [ratio] which is now above 90 percent, if you look at pretty low credibility in fiscal matters and what's been done on the implementation of structural reforms."

Ratings agency Standard and Poor's cut France's sovereign credit rating, citing lack of progress in government reforms of the country's economy.

There are several Scripture verses that condemn Homosexuality. I chose the one that plainly states that a Homosexual will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

What is there to debate about which is plainly stated in God's word? Yes, non believers/Liberals/Homosexuals/false teachers constantly invent arguments that Paul or Jesus said this or that about Homosexuality. That is their role as someone opposed to God. Why would you expect something different?

"Abusers of themselves with mankind" was a polite way of saying Homosexual by the King James translators. They also said "know" when referring to sexual relations, a euphemism.

I have no authority to damn anyone to hell. Why do you seek to give it to me? I only pointed to the irrefutable and authoritative word of God.

It is really not much different than me pointing out to you the 55mph speed limit to you when you are going 75.I would then be warning you because I care about you.

You are not the only one commenting here who has failed to see that Mr. Bennett is the one who often brings up the topic of Homosexuality. That is so obvious, why don't you see that?

As an ex-drinker, I could talk about that but that would be out of place considering the cartoon. Isn't that obvious?

Finally, why are so many people bothered about discussing Homosexuality if they are not involved in it?

Trans-fats should have been banned a long time ago. Anybody who makes the argument that the FDA's banning of them is government over-reach is not just stupid but damn stupid. They're every bit as dense and irrational in their anti-government obsession as those nitwits who defended the tobacco companies when they denied the link between cancer and cigarette smoking.

GameOn mentioned high fructose corn syrup. It should probably be banned too. The body does not assimilate it in the same way as it does sugar and it has been linked to the astronomical rise in obesity and diabetes. It is used in practically every processed food item and it's almost impossible to purchase anything that does not contain it. The fact that it's cheaper than sugar is the main reason it's used, but all of the commercially prepared sweet stuff on the market is way too sweet anyway. Those Little Debbies and Sara Lees and all the other over-sweetened crap that comes off the assembly lines could be made with half the sugar or corn syrup and they'd still be sweet enough to make your teeth rattle.

NFJ and soakya...When a food ingredient, chemical or otherwise, is known to be a direct link to clogging of the arteries and heart disease, it has no place whatsoever in the marketplace. It is one thing to make personal decisions about what you eat based on junk food as opposed to more nutritious food, but we're not talking about just empty calories here. We're talking about an ingredient that has been scientifically proven to be a direct link to heart disease, just like nicotine was linked directly to cancer.

Whether you anti-government zealots want to admit or not, what the FDA is doing in banning it is exactly the purpose it's intended to serve. And yes, government CAN do something right sometimes. There has never - NEVER - been a civilized society without a government at its core to make decisions and enact legislation to further the general welfare and the common good. Only a fool thinks that a society, especially one as large as ours, is capable of governing itself, or that the free market will instinctively regulate itself.

Okay conservative. Here is the definition of Defame with some synonyms.

"de·fame diˈfām/Submit verb 1. damage the good reputation of (someone); slander or libel. "he claimed that the article defamed his family" synonyms: libel, slander, malign, cast aspersions on, smear, traduce, give someone a bad name, run down, speak ill of, vilify, besmirch, stigmatize, disparage, denigrate, discredit, decry; informaldo a hatchet job on, drag through the mud, slur, badmouth, dis, talk smack; formalcalumniate "she has defamed my character" antonyms: compliment Origin

More Middle English: from Old French diffamer, from Latin diffamare ‘spread evil report,’ from dis- (expressing removal) + fama ‘report.’ Translate defame to Use over time for: defame"

I am not going to go back and read your post to find each and every time you did this. So now that you know the definition of "Defame" why don't you just let God convict you of your sin and then take the necessary steps.

By the way, I do not disagree with the content of your post most of the time. I only disagree with your approach. You will never win people over by putting them down or BADGERING them. Your badgering is incessant.

No. An apology wouldn't do anything. His track record speaks for itself. The facts is Obamacare is simply meant to destroy things and pave the way for a single payer plan. There was never any chance that anyone can keep their plan now, or in the long run. He's simply a bold faced liar. I can forgive a mistake, Guassianinteger, but not a lie, after lie, after lie. His lie was meant to dupe people, and it's personal. Let's see him back some legislation that enables those that want to keep their plan be able to keep it, then we'll see. He should just be up front and say he wants a single payer plan, say it now. He's on record saying he favors it in the past. The media does a good job of kissing his ass and covering for him. So get your news from somewhere else. If I think that any particular media outlet is being guilty of bias (and they all are {CNN, Fox, NBC, MSNBC, etc}), then I'll look for what I feel is an unfiltered view. People in the news business are catering to who they feel are going to tune in on a regular basis. It's what keeps them in business. I mean, I don't like the ACA because I feel they didn't address what is driving up costs; they catered to it even more. With that being said, healthcare is broken in the US and something had to be done. IMO, what they should have done is disconnected the employer-individual relationship that currently exists. That is what is continuing to drive-up costs.

Soakya, that is fine when you have an educated buyer. But these companies that are specializing in transfat are catering to the young and the poor (i.e. people that may not be in the best position to be the most "responsible" consumer).

Many people don't want to pay for car insurance either but we have laws to force them to purchase it. Sometimes it is necessary to protect the public from other people's laziness, selfishness, and stupidity. My god, the mandate was originally the brainchild of conservatives, as a means of ensuring self-responsibility, but since it's part of Obamacare you deny it now and act like it's some kind of socialist manifesto. Thank you congress my premium will increase by 23% but as a single male I will have pre-natal and birthing coverage. I can also now get ED meds whether I want the coverage or not. My deductibles and co-pays will be significantly greater. Objecting is like trying to raise the sea level by peeing in it. Heck, anniebelle wants me to be charged with treason and executed if I object to the affordable insurance act which does not mean affordable healthcare will also be accessible as needed and desired. This is the greatest transfer of wealth ever achieved with a good portion transferred to those providing the insurance and for added government participation.

Soakya, yes I am saying that the majority of the poor is not educated enough to understand that transfats are unhealthy. During your rants, have you given it any thought as to why the US leads the world in obesity? Junk food tends to be the cheapest stuff on grocery shelves so maybe it's a money issue as well.

And Rick1, if a company has to lay off employees because it is no longer able to put poison in food, so be it.

I was informed the new rates are in effect through April of 2014 at which time they would be reviewed and possibly adjusted. I am thinking that will depend on how much is needed for supplements and how many of the healthy young folks buy a policy. In other words the insurers are saying damned if we know what the ACA will do. I did not get the impression the adjustment may be lowering my cost.

they will definitely go up in 2014 because those 20-30 year olds do not want nor need the health insurance the president is selling. this will increase the cost for everyone else. again ignorant liberals do not understand the unintended consequences of their social engineering.

^So 20-30 year olds never break arms, get illnesses that require hospitalization, or get cancer? Who pays the costs when they choose to file for bankruptcy instead of paying the 100's of thousands of dollars in hospital bills?

You're not obsessed. You're fascinated with the issue.

"You don't agree with me, you can't refute God's word so you try to change the subject to me."

God has never spoken a word on this issue. There is absolutely no direct quote from God or his Son throughout the entire Bible. The words you quote are ALWAYS those written by men as human as you and I are.

"Why are you so obsessed with defending Homosexuality?"

Why are you so fascinated with condemning homosexuals? Who gave you any right to act as the Biblical writer's messenger?

Good. Now get married to your lady friend, do the dirty deed, impregnate her, and download a couple of kids. You'll then thank Congress for the tax deductions you will be eligible for.

"I can also now get ED meds whether I want the coverage or not."

Oh...I'm sorry to read that you have the need for them. That's okay...everyone needs a little help now and then.

"My deductibles and co-pays will be significantly greater."

Dump your insurer for one on the exchange. There is a high chance that you will find a better policy for less than you're paying now.

Gee...you're so full of brilliance, aren't you? If you will take a gander at your own list, you will see a 12 hour and 10 minute gap in the posts.

I was otherwise engaged, unlike yourself, who posted 38 times during your waking hours. I'm sure your "Internet business" suffered greatly during the last couple of days.

Mr. Anthony Provancher/alprova:

regarding your:

"God has never spoken a word on this issue. There is absolutely no direct quote from God or his Son throughout the entire Bible. The words you quote are ALWAYS those written by men as human as you and I are"

God used men to write Scripture, Scripture even declares that. However, God directed them supernaturally to write what He wanted them to write.

The result is no different than the President of the United States dictating a letter to a subordinate.

God used men to write Scripture but those God chose were not the authors of Scripture.

This is fundamental Christianity. You could easily do a Google search and find this out.

The word of God is the sword of the Holy Spirit. It is God's weapon. This is how God convicts men of their sin. Some repent, many others reject the conviction of God's word and harden their heart. Furthermore, they attack God's word and even go so far as to deny that it even exists. These same go to great lengths to avoid hearing or reading God's word and often strike out in anger when they can't avoid it.

I have no power to condemn Homosexuals, you seem to believe I do. Why are you constantly troubled by that belief? I assure you that I do not have that power. Relax.

All Christians have been instructed by our Lord Jesus Christ to preach the Gospel. The Gospel cannot be separated from sin, Homosexuality is sin. I hope this clears it up for you.

BTW, if you will do a Google search "essentials of Christianity" and "what God says about Homsexuality" you will find many men of God who can help you with your unbelief.

I have no intention of putting myself in a position of having the obligation to consider what anyone thinks about what or when I should or should not do something. Consider it selfish but I will not consider how another person feels about something nor will I go with her to attend something I don't want to and I sure have no desire to do the parenting thing, at least I know I wouldn't be good at it, it is too bad more people don't realize they aren't doing the world a favor with proliferation of their idiot gene. My contribution is to keep the divorce rate down by not screwing up a good relationship by getting married.

I still want the web site working correctly ASAP and I hope the results data will be accurate and available. I am still wondering why the congress allows the president to make arbitrary exceptions to the law that was passed. Why were employers given a full additional year? Why were exemptions or waivers granted to millions? How can the true impact be known with that going on? Where will all the additional money to cover the major increased number on Medicaid and the resulting cost come from?

Why not get your own church or a busy street corner to preach?

First glitch: I have successfully established my account, and can log in. I just tried to "shop" for insurance, but after logging in the site won't go further. I did read somewhere that it is often shut down at night while they are working on it, and it is before 7AM Eastern. I will try again after 8AM.

Fact check sites are stating that a lot of the stories about "cancelled policies", including Dyan Ratigan's story on the Blaze,(Glenn Beck can't help but spread falsehoods) turns out to be either crap policies or insurance companies cancelling policies and offering expensive alternatives on the spot. The customer takes these, not realizing that if they went to the exchanges they could find an equivalent policy for less. This is the insurance company's way to avoid the competition that the ACA sets up.
