Payne steps in, leads McCallie win

NASHVILLE — For Father Ryan, Friday night's Division II-AA opening-round playoff game was a tale of costly mistakes and missed opportunities.

The Irish lost 15-12 to McCallie after a 54-yard field-goal attempt by Father Ryan senior Luke Strebel fell just short and wide left as time expired.

Trailing for most of the game and playing with its third-string quarterback because of an injury to starter JaVaughn Craig, the Blue Tornado capitalized on two fourth-quarter fumbles by Father Ryan to score both of their touchdowns.
