Josh Ball's six goals and one assist in a win over Clearwater Christian and his goal in a 2-2 tie Saturday at Palm Beach Atlantic got the Lee University senior forward the recognition of National Christian College Athletic Association Division I men's soccer player of the week. Ball finished the regular season with a team-high 17 goals for the Flames (10-3-5), who begin play Nov. 22 in the NCCAA Mid-East Region tournament.

Wrestling

• The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's Nick Soto and Corey Mock stayed put in the latest collegiate wrestling rankings from Amateur Wrestling News. Mock remains seventh at 165 pounds and Soto remains 18th at 133. The Mocs are at home Saturday at Maclellan Gym for matches against Life College at 5:30 p.m. and Shorter at 7.

Volleyball

• Jasmine Crook had 14 kills as Shorter University defeated Lee University 3-0 in volleyball Tuesday (25-18, 25-21, 28-26). Cheyenne Frady and Dena Pierce had 23 and 19 assists and 11 digs apiece for the Lady Hawks (19-9). Lauren Williams and Paula Martins had 12 and 11 kills and Latrice Johnson added eight for Lee (15-7), which got 31 assists and 14 digs from Camil Matinez, the reigning NCCAA Divsion I volleyball student-athlete of the week. Deborah Magalhaes and Sarah Davis had 15 and 10 digs and Johnson had 12.

• Cleveland High School graduate Kristen Pickett had 52 assists and 17 digs and Boyd-Buchanan alumna Rachel Harper had 16 kills and 10 digs in Carson-Newman's 3-2 volleyball loss Tuesday night against Lincoln Memorial.

• Baylor had five players and GPS had one selected to the 12-member TSSAA All-Divison II-AA East/Middle Region team. Heading the list is Lady Red Raiders sophomore setter Haven Bethune, who was voted most valuable player. Others chosen on the team from state-runner-up Baylor were senior Rachel Ford and freshmen Gabby Gray, Lilly Turner and Jane Wilson. Senior Olivia Berger is the Bruisers' selection.

Basketball

• Joshua Montgomery's 18 points and 10 rebounds and Deven Williams' 17 points led Savannah State past visiting Tennessee Temple in men's basketball Tuesday night, 73-63. Rashaud Bell had 22 points and nine rebounds for Temple (3-2) against the NCAA Division I school, and Weedlens Beauvil scored 10 points with three 3-point baskets. Temple's Lady Crusaders lost 74-44 at NCAA Division II to North Alabama, which got 18 points and eight rebounds from Jennifer Towne and 16 points and nine steals from Lauren Faris in its season opener. Angel Foster led Temple (0-2) with 13 points.

• Cleveland State swept visiting Snead State in junior college basketball Tuesday evening, 79-63 for the 4-1 Lady Cougars and 83-73 for the 5-0 Cougars, who shot 60.4 percent from the field. Stetson Moore scored 18 points with four 3s and Keevin Tyus and Robert Brandon added 14 and 11 for Cleveland State's men. Jamesha Mosley scored 20 and Brandi Whitted had 15 points for the Lady Cougars, overcoming 19 and 17 by Snead's Courtney McKenzie and Monica Cooper.

• Georgia Northwestern's scheduled men's basketball game Tuesday night at Masten Prep in Atlanta was postponed because of facility maintenance issues.
