A Murray County Superior Court judge sentenced an armed robber Wednesday to life in prison.

Joey Lebron Kilgore, 35, of 514 Cherokee Drive in Chatsworth, was arrested on the morning of Jan. 3 after investigators say he robbed a Kangaroo convenience store while holding a knife. In October, a jury found him guilty of armed robbery and aggravated assault.

Then, on Wednesday, Superior Court Judge David Blevins sentenced Kilgore to life in prison for the armed robbery conviction. Blevins also sentenced him to 20 years in prison for aggravated assault.

On the night of the crime, according to a release from District Attorney Bert Poston, Kilgore walked into the convenience store wearing a black hoodie and black mask. While flashing a knife, Kilgore told the store's clerk to give him the money from the cash register.

Kilgore then left the store, according to the release, and the clerk pressed the store's panic button, locking all the doors and calling 911. Officers arrived and arrested Kilgore before he could get away.

According to the release, Kilgore was also convicted of family violence aggravated assault, which by state law requires Kilgore to receive the harshest possible punishment for his armed robbery arrest.
