Businesses in Athens, Tenn., have planned a holiday shopping spree this weekend.
Events begin today, Nov. 21, with the Preview Party for The Arts Center’s fifth annual Holiday Trunk Show, a three-day offering of fine art, crafts and handmade gifts from regional artists.
The Preview Party, hosted by Athens Area Council for the Arts volunteers, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. and feature early shopping privileges, refreshments, door prizes provided by the artists and entertainment by guitarist Oneta Wright. Admission is $5 or a donation of nonperishable food items for the Coordinated Charities of Athens food bank.
The shopping opportunity offers gifts for every budget, from home and holiday accessories to handmade art and craft items.
Other Holiday Trunk Show shopping hours are admission-free. Hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23.
Meanwhile, the Athens Downtown Business Association will sponsor a Twilight Shopping Spectacular from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. Stores in the downtown business district will offer extended hours and discounts for shoppers.
During that time, The Arts Center will host Pictures With Santa from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The photo package includes one 5 x 7 and four wallet-size photos for $10. Photo packages will be available for pickup Monday, Dec. 2.
The Arts Center is two blocks from the downtown square at 320 N. White St.
