Both support, opposition at Atlanta Braves stadium meeting

MARIETTA, Ga. - There was a mix of support and opposition on display during the public's first chance to weigh in on a new $672 million Braves stadium planned for Cobb County.

About 300 people attended the town hall Thursday evening in Marietta. After the meeting, County Commissioner Helen Goreham said she was surprised by the number of people in the crowd supporting the plan and had expected more opponents to attend.

The Cobb County Commission is slated on Tuesday to consider the deal, which calls for $300 million in public funds to be used to help pay for the stadium.

The 30-year agreement calls for a mix of reallocating existing property tax revenue and implementing new taxes on business and tourism in the area.
