Tips lead to arrest in Dalton, Ga., theft, credit card fraud

Dalton, Ga., police officers arrested a 20-year-old Crandall, Ga., woman this morning and charged her with theft, fraud and forgery counts.

Thanks in part to tips from the public, Linda Nguyen surrendered this morning, according to a news release.

The purse theft occurred Oct. 25 at the TJ Maxx on West Walnut Avenue, police said. At about 5:30 p.m., Nguyen and another woman entered the store and Nguyen took a purse that had been mislaid by the victim. She then left the store with the purse. Investigators determined that the other woman was not involved with the theft or the credit card fraud.

On Nov. 20 investigators posted surveillance pictures of the incident online, and multiple tips from the public led investigators to contact Nguyen and, eventually, to seek warrants for her arrest.

She's charged with theft of lost or mislaid property, financial transaction card fraud, financial identity fraud and forgery in the first degree.
