Alabama specialty tag helps wounded veterans go hunt

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - A new specialty vehicle tag in Alabama is raising money to help wounded veterans go hunting.

Retired Houston County engineer Mark Pool is leading the effort for the Whitetail Warriors Project. The vehicle tag shows a large buck and the words "Whitetail Warrior." Pool says people can go by their county tag office to reserve one of the $50 license plates. Out of that, $43 will go to the organization to purchase and retrofit golf carts. The carts can be used in the woods and as hunting stands for wounded veterans who can't move safely in the outdoors.

Pool says the cost of equipping each cart and getting a trailer is about $6,000. He said people are already providing access to hunting land where the carts can be used.
