Ex-Alabama football player tried as adult in robberies

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - A judge has denied youthful offender status for a former University of Alabama football player who was accused of robbing two UA students earlier this year.

The Tuscaloosa News reported Tuesday that 21-year-old Eddie Williams will be tried as an adult in both cases.

Youthful offender status means young people, usually younger than 21, can in most cases keep their convictions secret. The status also limits sentencing and probation lengths.

Williams and three other former football players were each indicted on charges of robbery. Williams and Brent Calloway have also been indicted on multiple counts of fraudulent use of credit or debit cards.

Also accused in the robberies are D.C. Pettway and Tyler Hayes.

All four were kicked off the football team, and they're no longer enrolled in school.
