Haunting concert by UTC symphony - Oct. 3

Saturday, September 28, 2013

Perhaps inspired by the bounty of haunted attractions emerging for October thrill seekers, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Department of Music will present an evening of "hauntingly beautiful music" by the UTC Symphony Orchestra tonight, Oct. 3.

The "All Hallows" concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall in the UTC Fine Arts Center, 752 Vine St.

Maestro Jooyong Ahn, director of orchestras and professor of conducting at UTC, will lead the musicians. The "guest apparitions," raised through their music, will be composers Beethoven, Mozart, Sibelius and Bizet.

Selections include Beethoven's Overture to "The Creatures of Prometheus, Op. 43," a ballet evoking mysterious allegorical creatures; Mozart's Symphony 29 in A Major, a fiery and impulsive prance through chamber music; Sibelius' "Valse Triste (Sad Waltz)," originally composed for the 1903 play "Kuolema (Death)"; and Bizet's "Jeux D'Enfants" from the Children's Games Suite, described as "a fantasy trick-or-treat bag of miniatures."

Admission is free. For details, call 423-425-4601 or visit www.utc.edu.music/projects/performances/php.
