about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

Why are you not allowing him to commit suicide? He prepared the rope, made the noose and built the hangman's galley and you won't let him do it, why? The unaffordable "affordable healthcare act" will prove to be the greatest debacle ever perpetrated on human kind and will be claimed by no one within two years if allowed to proceed as written and with the rules developed thus far. The intent is admirable however the method is murderous and will do more harm than good. The objective could be achieved without it being like a deadly disease that cannot be cured but treated in an effort to keep the symptoms and pain under control.

Ask those less informed what the difference in the AHA and Obama care is and which they prefer. Believe it or not many won't know what you are talking about but most will have a preference and try to explain the difference.

fairmon,

You may well be right, but we probably will have to give ACA a try and see where and how big the problems are. If we do that with combined good will, we might actually be able to move toward something better. If we continue to tear the country asunder without trying, the bitterness will only remain and grow.

nucanuck...the ACA is coming whether the majority want it or not. The republicans criticize but they are not offering a simpler more effective alternative. The ACA makes insurance available but does not necessarily result in affordable healthcare. That will become evident in time. Republicans fail to accept that the U.S. will have socialized medicine, become less creative and no longer be the primary source of new medical procedures and technology. The U.S. educational system has failed the country miserably and will be the cause of even more disparity in the future. The U.S. is no longer the 800lb. gorilla but just another monkey in the world zoo.

What everyone in this 'debate' seems to be missing is the fact the majority of Americans voted for this administration and their platform. One of the main goals was to provide health care to everyone in this country as other developed nations have done. There were two elections for these Democratic policies. The Republicans, WHO LOST TWICE are just saying to hell with the constitution, our democracy and governing a country so every citizen benefits, not just the top 1%. Sometimes there are not two sides to an argument. The people spoke and because the teabillies didn't like it, they decided to hold our whole country hostage. They should be hanged for treasonous attempts to destroy this country.

I am not a republican or tea party member but I read and know what the AHA initially outlined. If I recall the democrats had a majority in both houses when it was passed and Pelosi made her often quoted statement about pass it to know what is in it. The next election was when the republicans gained the house primarily a reaction to the AHA and the economy. Most members admitted they had not read the bill therefore did not fully comprehend it as proven by their recent realization that they were adversely affected by losing their subsidy, that was changed promptly.

I and others voting libertarian, the news media and an opponent that could not connect with people is what gave Obama a second term, not the AHA.

Do you remember his promises to balance the budget, cut the deficit in half, reduce unemployment to less than 6%, close Gitmo, end the wars and involvement in the middle east plus a few other un-deliverables by him or anyone else?

I see nothing wrong in our system with disagreement, debate and representing those that elected them. How do you assign either party responsibility when neither of them are willing to reconcile? Harry Reid is a senile old idiot that along with McCain and a few others need to take their liberal pensions and move on.

Once the AHA is in place what do you suppose the next item to be taxed for failure to purchase might be? Once people realize they can vote themselves wealth from the public treasury the right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness along with independence will erode rapidly as more and more people demand the government infringe on those rights.

The first heart transplant was done in South Africa by Christiaan Barnard who received all of his medical training in the U.S. that prepared him to perform that feat (three days before the same was done in the U.S.). Nearly all of the development of the artificial heart was done in the U.S. as well.

You liberals have no concept of the U.S. Constitution. The U.S. Constitution was designed with two objectives in mind. One was to make it difficult for the government to intrude in our lives. That is why it has taken over 200 years to move America to socialism. The other was to limit the powers of the president or whoever occupies the White House such as obama. It was designed this way so we would never have a dictator in America. I know you liberals want a dicktator like obama and want him to have absolute power and never be questioned or held accountable. You might want to look around other countries that have had dictators in the past and see how that worked for them. Take a look at Lenin, Hitler, Stalin and others. The reason the Republicans are prepared to go to throw a beat down on Democrats, and more importantly the American people, and stop the ACA at ANY COST is simple:

As the late great bubble headed (referring to his avatar) spaceman Alprova said, ”Anti-Obama Republicans are desperate because they are fearful that Obamacare will work and if it does, what will the fallout be. I expect a very desperate Republican dominated procession of people to climb the walls, spewing conjecture, rumor, and outright lies.”

DING DING DING, Give the man a prize.

Yep, sure as shootin, the ACA would wreck the message the GOP has stuck with the last four years. The public is seeing and hearing what’s behind the curtain; a cacophonous choral refrain of many babies crying in discordant squeals. Their agenda for the last four years having been catchy propaganda tunes filled with fabrications and deceit. The face, now exposed, is as that of a surprised dog that had his snout in the toilet.

Unless the Democrats cave (history shows this to be a distinct possibility) let’s all wish the gang of "Down Syndrome terrorists" plenty of good old fashioned ill will.
