Volleyball Mocs home for two

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga volleyball team hosts Appalachian State tonight at 6 and Western Carolina at 3 p.m. Saturday in Southern Conference matches in Maclellan Gym after beginning league play with a 1-1 split last weekend at Furman and Wofford. Appalachian is 9-7, 0-2 in the SoCon; WCU is 12-4, 2-0, and beat ASU 3-1 last week.


• Furman University dominated the Southern Conference women’s soccer match Thursday night at Finley Stadium, beating UTC 9-0. After Stephanie DeVita scored in the sixth minute, Carlie Couch assisted on two Jamie Alexander goals by the 15-minute mark and then began a six-goal second half with a score of her own from Claire Sullivan’s assist. Delaney Sheehan had three goals in the final 23 minutes for the Paladins (8-2-1, 2-0), who had margins of 31-5 in shots and 7-0 in corner kicks. Taylor Mangrum had seven saves with five goals allowed in 67 minutes in goal for UTC (4-6, 0-3).
