Walker County, Ga., man accused of soliciting 13-year-old on Facebook for sex

Saturday, October 5, 2013

Police say a Walker County, Ga., man asked a 13-year-old girl on Facebook if she wanted to have sex.

On Thursday, with a Walker County detective monitoring the conversation, the girl agreed to meet James Edward Revis. According to an investigative report, Revis agreed to meet with someone who he thought was the girl in the parking lot of Lighthouse Baptist Church, at 1201 LaFayette Road in Rossville.

But Revis did not find the girl there. Instead, Detective Sgt. William Davis arrived and handcuffed Revis, 41. He was charged with criminal attempt to commit child molestation, and on Friday afternoon he remained in the Walker County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 bond.

According to the report, Revis began chatting with the girl on Facebook on Sept. 18, and one of the girl's neighbors alerted the sheriff's office about the conversations. The neighbor let the girl use her computer, and she later found the chat history between the girl and Revis.

After Davis looked through the conversation, he asked the girl and her mother if he could get access to the girl's Facebook account. He said he would monitor her interactions and, if needed, he would chat with Revis through the girl's account.

The report does not say whether Davis ever actually used the girl's page to communicate with Revis. But on Thursday, according to the report, Revis and the girl arranged to meet in the Lighthouse Baptist Church parking lot.

"It was obvious that the meeting was for the purpose of allowing [the victim] to see the suspect's [genitals]," Davis wrote in the report.

Around 5:45 p.m., Davis saw Revis drive into the parking lot in a white truck. Revis told Davis that he was on his way home, and that he was using the parking lot to turn around.

But, Davis wrote, "There is no obvious reason for anyone to be on the back lot of the church."
