Bryan College now 22-1 in volleyball

The Bryan College volleyball team improved to 22-1 overall and 12-0 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference with a 3-0 victory over Reinhardt on Tuesday in Dayton, Tenn.

Kara Stamper had 14 kills and Taylor Fink had 36 assists in the 25-17, 25-15, 25-21 triumph for the Lady Lions, who got seven kills apiece from Carolyn Evans and Chelsea Breaden and 14 digs from Corrie Walker.

Breaden was the AAC player and hitter of the week for her 31 kills and overall .443 attack percentage in three wins last week, and Fink was the honored setter for the fourth time in five voting periods this season after totaling 98 assists in 10 sets.

• At Atlanta, NCAA Division III power Emory went to 22-1 by beating new Division II member Lee University 3-0 with three players making 10 or nine kills. For Lee (6-5), Paula Martins had a match-high 12 and Patty Orozco and Latrice Johnson added eight and seven in the 25-17, 25-23, 25-19 loss, while Becky Bourne had 23 assists and Libby Peigen had 10 digs.

Carlson, Wilson picked

Covenant College senior Estes Carlson was the USA South volleyball defensive player of the week, and Sewanee's Jamie Sue Wilson was the Southern Athletic Association's offensive player of the week.

Wilson had 12 and 17 kills on .458 and .300 attack percentages in two SAA wins; she leads the Tigers with 163 kills. Carlson had 50 digs in three matches, including 27 against Averett.

Flames top UAH

Josh Ball's hat trick led Lee University to a 4-2 men's soccer win Tuesday night against Alabama-Huntsville in Cleveland.

Ball scored twice in the first 27 minutes from Chevon Roberts assists, Arturo Rocha also assisting on the first, and Rocha and Ball had second-half scores for the Flames (4-3-2), dropping UAH to 5-4-1.

• Tennessee Wesleyan (w) 4, Bryan 0: At Athens, Kaitlyn Poulakis had an assist to Madelyn Thomas and two scores of her own in the second half of the Lady Bulldogs' AAC win. Amy Cooley scored from a Daelyn Swafford assist four minutes after the Thomas score, and Kimberly Key assisted on the final goal. Stephanie Gagnon had seven saves in defeat.

• Tennessee Temple (w) 2, Oglethorpe 2: In Atlanta, Ashley Gallo on a penalty kick and Courtney Born from a Paris Bentley assist scored for Temple (3-8-1) in the tie, and Lyndi Dodd made double-digit saves in goal.

SAA honors Quinn

Sewanee senior Ellie Quinn was the SAA women's soccer defensive player of the week for her part in the Tigers' five-game run of shutout wins. They outscored their foes 21-0 in that stretch.
