White House blamed for impasse and other letters to the editors

White House blamed for impasse

The House sent multiple government funding bills to the Senate that defunded and delayed Obamacare. America doesn't want the health care takeover. Yet Harry Reid refuses to negotiate with the House. He'd rather protect Obama's legacy than protect your country from a "train wreck." Obama is trying to blame conservatives for the government shutdown. But he and Harry Reid are the ones refusing to negotiate. We can't let them get away with that.

Solar savings questioned

Although I am an advocate of renewable energy and appreciate the potential of solar energy, I wonder how the airport solar system means "savings" since the original government investment of $7 million will only result in only $205,000 annual savings.

This is at least a 34-year payout and appears to be to be just another piece of government "pork". What if that $7 million would be invested and drawing interest for those long 34 years?

Apology to people needed

Although Weston Wamp attempts to give a new script for House Speaker John Boehner to address the country and regain control and implement a reversal strategy over this government shutdown; he overlooks the third critical apology -- that to the American citizens! To have him apologize to the tea party, to the Republican party and not directly to the people, does not support Mr. Wamp's efforts.

What about 'right to work'?

I own a 2012 Passat, made here in Chattanooga. It's a great car but probably my last. Forget the debate over "is the UAW good or bad."

Didn't VW know that Tennessee is a right to work state when they came here? Sounds to me that they are trying to force a union on the workers and our state as a condition for future growth and employment.

Isn't that in violation of the right-to-work laws? I thought the Germans had given up "dictatorship" back in the 1940s. Guess not.

Gordon Smith, I thought the USA had given up on slavery in the 1800's too, but to demand workers work for a non-living wage is akin to slavery. Right-to-work translates into right-to-work for pauper's wages, therefore forcing their employees, i.e. WalMart, to live off government funds such as food stamps and Medicaid and god forbid they should get sick and need healthcare. I think these billionaire CEO's should give back a little to the country that gave them such obscene wealth to stuff in their little piggy banks in other countries, like Mitt Romney, for instance.

Tony Kubik, I don't know what statitics you're seeing, but the polls I read, that includes that ole' liberal rag, WallStreetJournal, overwhelmingly blame the Republicans for this take down of our government. Try finding some truth before you engage your keyboard. You see, the majority of our citizens, confederate states not included, are smart enough to go through their maze of lies and half-truths to get to the FACTS. By the way, congressional approval is at an all-time low of 5%.

anniebelle, could you point out what tony said that wasn't a fact. I see 7 statements in his post 2 of which are opinions so please point out where he has the facts wrong.

The House sent multiple government funding bills to the Senate that defunded and delayed Obamacare.Fact. America doesn't want the health care takeover. Fact. Yet Harry Reid refuses to negotiate with the House. fact. He'd rather protect Obama's legacy than protect your country from a "train wreck." Opinion, don't know his motives.. Obama is trying to blame conservatives for the government shutdown. fact, but he's not trying, he's doing it. But he and Harry Reid are the ones refusing to negotiate. fact. We can't let them get away with that. opinion

I don't think Mr. Kubik said anything about who the polls were blaming he said the president was trying to blame the conservatives, fact. he also said the president and reid were the ones not wanting to negotiate, fact. maybe you should read what he said before you engage your own keyboard and it sounds like you might be one of those not smart enough that live in one of those confederate states

GORDON SMITH, You're right. VW shouldn't be making decisions about its business. That should be done by government officials who know what's good for us. That's the conservative American way.

TONY KUBIK, The President has asked for a clean funding bill. The House has declined. The President asked for reconsideration. What exactly do you want him to do?

elections have consequences. if you wanted to continue to ram down legislation down the Americans peoples throat despite overwhelming opposition you liberals should have maintained control of the house of representatives.

we have a 3 branch (4 really but the media won't do their job)system of government not a dictatorship. and the house of representatives is controlled by the republicans. as I said before elections have consequences and the consequences of ramming obamacare down the throats of americans was the birth of the tea party. you had a chance to throw them out in 2012 and you didn't do it. tough luck

Soakya, if you were informed, you would know what kind of "proposals were sent to our President" from the party that LOST the election. We voted out their policies, understand? As far as them taking the house, have you ever looked at the gerrymandered map (don't take me for one of your brainwashed cohorts) these repukes have rendered to make sure their teabilly candidate had no chance of losing. Don't try that worn out non-truth "ramming Obamacare down our throats", that's just more made up rhetoric. It was approved by both houses and the black robes, so get over it already.

if you were not disingenuous you would point out it was rammed down our throats by a democratic senate, democratic house of rep, and a democratic president despite overwhelming opposition from the American people. then the black robes said it was a tax despite the fact that all tax bills are to originate in the house of representatives not the senate. Understand this annie, the 2010 election is what put the house in the hands of the republicans because of this ram down. so you need to get over that. and yes annie you are nothing more than a brainwashed shill for the ignorant left who has been and is destroying this country with their policies. elections have consequences annie so get over it.

if I were you annie I wouldn't be talking about anyone being uninformed because you apparently get all your news from the huffinton post and msnbc.
