The Back Up Plan

about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

Obamacare was no individual mandate; the im was Hillary's idea. Obamacare was you could keep your insurance if you liked it, and you could keep you doctor. Obamacare was to be negotiated on C-span. Democrats repealed Obamacare on party-line votes, eh? And, unable to answer GOP arguments, our cartoonist brought out of his pen what his mind and heart are full of.

The reason those opposing what they consider a disaster that will be detrimental to the country are being criticized is?

It appears the cartoon suggest the occupants are full of crap and defecating often so a ready supply of toilet tissue is needed.

Why has senator Cruz not been sanctioned for being so adamant and persistent about what he believes and what his supporters expect of him?

I may not agree with those opposing the AHA bill but I have no problem with the shutdown lasting until the 2014 elections and letting voters determine by election which opinion will prevail.

I would prefer to see insistence that the exceptions the president has made be rejected and the entire bill implemented with the timing established when approved. That is the only way to know if it as good as advertised or is it the disaster being described?

The exchanges failure are typical of any government attempt at managing any business. A few questions may be:

o Why with their American jobs, jobs, jobs chant did they hire a Canadian company to develop the exchange software?

o What is the criteria for a waiver or exemption from the law?

o Why is the number and names of those getting a waiver or exemption not easily available to the general public?

o What recourse is there for those unable to retain their doctor or health care coverage as they were promised but not able to do so due to the AHA?

o Why are businesses given a one year waiver but not individuals.

o Will the individual mandate be postponed if the exchanges are not functional timely?

o Why are Boehner and Reid able to prevent a vote on any bill until they are confident they will be pleased with the results? Where in that process are the people represented?

The reason uninformed and misinformed Americans are so confused is because of the MILLIONS being spent to confuse them on our airwaves, newspapers and community gatherings. How horrible will it be for the heretofore uninsured citizens receive the medical care so desperately needed in this country? If we would all work together and concerned citizens instead of acting like rivals at some high school football game, we really could be the Greatest Nation on earth, instead we have chosen to go backwards in time. "Let's take our country back" is the mantra I hear from the right. Back to what, no safety restrictions, no labor restrictions such as sick pay or weekends or the 40 hour week, inequality for those without the big bucks, poor houses for the elderly and disabled (yes, kids, this country was dotted with poorhouses in the 1800's for those burned out from working 7 days a week with little pay, while their employer's (master's)lived in mansions (I'm not speaking of blacks either)-- this is the country the GOP is trying to take us back to. The gilded age it was called. Also, where in this process are the people represented that voted for this President and his policies? TWICE

Thanks for the toon--we all need a good laugh at the clowns currently performing in Washington. The sequester has shut-out many jobs; some folks were ill-prepared and thought their weekly paychecks were guaranteed. When the smoke is cleared we may find many of the jobs were vital, and many were useless. The debt ceiling is a joke, just like an individual having a debt limit on a credit card they weren't responsible to make purchases with all along.

NO ONE wants to go back to the dark ages conservative or liberal. Most of the young people I know beg for that overtime at time and a half. No, degage, this is not a two-sided story. The liberals won the election, that included the inclusion of health care for all our citizens. The conservatives lost, which means the majority of Americans do not want their brand. Yes OSHA exists now, but if the cons have their way, we'll get rid of all those 'nasty' regulations, that's just the facts they're telling us they want to do TO this country, not FOR. And god forbid, we should have to read pages of information about one of the biggest programs ever put forth in this country. We, as Amurikans, have more important things to do like watch 'reality tv', nascar' and football games. I think you're grossly exaggerating 13,000 pages of regulations, but hey the GOP has never been accused of using factual information to get their rhetoric across.

anniebelle, Have you read the bill? It appears not since you are parroting a lot of the talking points the politicians and media use. I did read or tried to read the initial marked up margin notes bill that passed and more later and finally quit trying to keep up. I Don't believe anyone with reading and comprehension skills of a 5th grader would support that which the insurance companies put upon congress and they in their waning hours of control hurriedly passed the unread bill. The intent is good but it is an insurance bill not a healthcare bill.

I am serious when I say I would like to see it implemented as written and on schedule. I am willing to pay the 2X-3x more for my insurance and healthcare just to see the reaction of people paying for all the excess realize what has been done to them instead of for them.

We know that they oppose progress, but let's face it - The WORLD is moving ahead and we're way behind on making a much-needed paradigm shift! There seems but one way that the GOP can salvage, repair, and restore Grandness to the GOP. That is for them to summarily reject the Tea Party, forcing them to form their own party and go it alone. When the TEA Party is history, the GOP can begin to restore a viable two-party system to government and get the country working together, as it should. The only other alternative is for GOP incumbents who want to work for a better tomorrow, to switch parties to the Democrats and adopt their progressive agenda.

And, once a few of the liberal Democrats who won't be able to pay the premiums, and have their assets attached for failing to pay the income tax fines, find themselves with their tails in a crack, they will stay away from the polls. It's the natural and predictable action of people who are in trouble with the law; they avoid contact with places where they have to show an ID and risk being arrested. Tax evasion is a felony.

As you guys bat the blame ball back and forth, it becomes harder and harder to see what "winning" might mean.

Continuing the debt financed spending is holding the economy together...barely...but will lead to the destruction of the US dollar...which leads to total economic collapse.

Cutting back government spending enough to eliminate additional borrowing would collapse the economy much more quickly than the current borrowing, but might save the US dollar from annihilation.

The US economy is very much like the chronic alcoholic who has done so much physical damage through over-drinking that whether he quits or not, the damage is done and he is going to die. The fact of the matter is, yes, you wing-nuts DO want to go back to the Gilded Age. You just don't have the common sense to see that what defined that era was the abhorrent lack of regulation that benefited the greedy industrialists who were forcing their workers to work in abhorrent conditions and at pathetically low wages. THAT is what you right-to-work people call "freedom" from big government. If many of the young people are begging to work overtime it's for one reason and one reason only: they're not making enough money off their low-paying jobs! As for the 13000 pages of minutiae that you claim is too complex and exhaustive for anybody to take the time to read, hardly anybody takes the time to read the fine print on their own insurance policies anyway, so what difference does it make whether it's 13 pages or 13000?

The problems we are seeing with Obamacare now are due to one reason: it was a mistake to have left our health care system in the hands of private business. Medicare-for-all or single payer is/was the only way to go. If we had done that, we would not be having these arguments now about the mandate and government "infringement."

There is still the argument being made from you teabaggers about "death panels" and "rationing." When the private insurance companies deny claims from their policy holders or refuse to cover a certain medical procedure or cap your insurance when you need expensive, ongoing treatment or when someone can't afford insurance in the first place because it is so expensive, that form or rationing is perfectly acceptable to you. But as soon as our government comes up with a plan to help the tens of millions of uninsured get health insurance you whine about rationing that hasn't even occurred yet but that you imagine MIGHT happen eventually. You guys don't make any sense at all.

October 13, 2013 at 12:52 p.m.
Rickaroo said...

Our current health care system is broken, expensive, unfair, and out of control. If we do nothing the costs will continue to rise and many of those who are still lucky enough to have insurance now will not be able to afford it in the future. Universal coverage is not just a liberal "feel-good" idea. It's actually the essence of true conservatism to do that which is the most practical and cost effective. It would be far better to spend money up front and provide everyone with the chance to cover medical treatment early on, where it is much cheaper, than to force millions to have to wait until an emergency happens or an illness goes untreated and then end up in the emergency room, where it is most expensive to treat and where hospitals and doctors lose the most money. What's more, that is one of the main reasons your health insurance premiums go up ever year, in order to cover those costs. It is you wing-nuts who are so full of passion-filled hatred for government in any shape or form that prevents you from seeing the practicality of universal health care for all.

When the Republicans decided to join their corporate masters and allow every manufacturing center in this country to rot into obsolescence they doomed us to this expense. We all know that of you don't maintain your vehicle you must replace it later at a higher cost. We are now rebuilding the entire ship of state.

Without a doubt, there is much that is wrong with Obamacare. But the fault lies with an untenable premise - keeping health insurance in the hands of private, for-profit companies and at the same time trying to make it affordable. Ain't gonna happen. The only way for Obamacare to ever work is for it to morph into single-payer.

Many of the complaints coming from the right are legitimate, but they offer no alternatives whatsoever. All they want is to go back to what we've had all along - a system they're perfectly satisfied with as long as they're lucky enough or rich enough to get their slice of the health insurance pie. But that system will not last much longer either; it is untenable as well. The costs keep spiraling upward and we will only see the number of uninsured continue to increase.

TC, I never even remotely suggested that Bush is/was to blame "exclusively." But what he was guilty of was much worse than just poor decision making. He and his neo-con gang of thugs were deliberate, malicious, and ill conceived in their vain attempt to spread democracy through empire building and they lied, misrepresented the facts, and filtered intelligence to carry out their behind-doors plan of action. What they did completely backfired and he/they never owned up to it but instead just chalked it all up to "faulty intelligence." He has the innocent blood of thousands of American soldiers on his hands and tens and hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis and Afghanis.

Obama is guilty, too, of perpetuating the war on terror, and increasing drone strikes far beyond what Bush even carried out. Yeah .... allowing the citizens to hear all sides and decide for themselves is definitely not something a free country want’s to endorse. I love how you Fleabaggers are always for freedom of expression but only if you agree with what’s being expressed.

How horrible will it be for the heretofore uninsured citizens receive the medical care so desperately needed in this country?

I thought you Fleabaggers were of the opinion that everyone was getting health care but we were just paying for it inefficiently?

If we would all work together and concerned citizens instead of acting like rivals at some high school football game, we really could be the Greatest Nation on earth, instead we have chosen to go backwards in time.

No we didn’t choose this path we just aimlessly wandered onto it. The Global economy caught us standing in the middle of the road with our thumb up our a%% and it just freight-trained us. We had it all to ourselves after WW2 but we frittered it away by not taking the long view of our economy.

I don’t know if you Fleabaggers are being willfully ignorant or really just moronic but I’m betting on the latter. Taking the country back has nothing to do with a time period but refers to the producers in the country takeing a more active role in providing adult supervision to this current fiasco we call our governing bodies.

Also, where in this process are the people represented that voted for this President and his policies? TWICE

You are entitled to receive your fair share of representation but you people seem to want a dictatorship by and for Fleabaggers and excluding your political opponent.

Don't forget we are recovering from a recession. Lot of jobs were at stake that generates a lot of income taxes.

Do you really believe we are recovering? The percent of eligible workers has gone down to 63%. Unemployment is well into double digits if those exhausting benefits and not looking are included. The number of bankruptcies and failed businesses are up. Where is the evidence of an improving economy? Wall Street reports higher numbers but the stock market index does not mean the economy is improving. I wish you were right but the evidence doesn't say you are. Neither party is doing anything to stop the migration of companies to other countries to avoid the high U.S. tax rates (highest in the world) on foreign profits. Over $1 Trillion in off shore accounts and out of the reach of the government.

I am convinced that this president and his advisers are weak and ignorant when the challenge is incentivizing and enabling the private sector to add wealth creating manufacturing, farming, fishing or mining jobs. An economy based on providing services to each other, being a government employee or demand that is a result of government spending cannot compete in the world economy.

The logic of the big spenders escapes me. Bush is blamed for the debt he took to 8 trillion with a democrat congress. Now they insist that Obama, after doubling the debt to over 17 trillion, needs to double the debt again over the next decade to solve the debt problem. There is no plan to improve the debt situation. I assume they think it will just happen by magic.

If you're looking for presidents who nearly doubled the national debt, perhaps you need to look at G.W. Bush. According to the Treasury, the publicly held debt was $3.3 trillion when he took office in 2001, and more than $6.3 trillion when he left office in 2009.

That's an increase of nearly 91 percent.

For us grammar nerds, it democratic congress. If you have availed yourself to any grade school English, you would know it is an adjective. I guess not, this is what the GOP teaches their childish base. I hear all this uproar about "Latinos need to learn the English language". Talk about the pot calling the kettle. . .

Here is a fact all teabaggers refuse to accept: From 2011 to the night of Nov. 6, 2012 Every Republican Candidate who ran in the primaries and then the final candidate Romney all promised the same thing: On day one of their FIRST term if elected by the American People they would REPEAL OBAMACARE. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. However on the night of Nov. 6, 2012 the American People spoke and the man who every right wing nut job and pundit said wouldn't win re-election BECAUSE OF OBAMACARE AND THE SO-CALLED POOR JOB HE HAD DONE WITH THE RECOVERY WAS RE-ELECTED TO ANOTHER TERM.

When are the teabaggers and Repubs going to ACCEPT THE FACT THEIR VIEW OF WHAT THE MAJORITY OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WANT IS DISCONNECTED FROM REALITY? SO IF THEY GET THEIR AZZES HANDED TO THEM ON A PLATTER IN 2014 IF THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE ARE TURNED OVER TO THE DEMOCRATS WILL THAT CONVINCE THEM?

Just like they didn't want to ACCEPT the poll numbers last year because those numbers didn't fit their belief the MAJORITY of the country was not behind the Republican Candidate (to the point Mittens didn't even write a concession speech and pigboy Rove had a meltdown on National T.V. that night LOL), they have once again put their hands over their ears and they are not LISTENING TO THE MAJORITY OF THE AMERICAN PUBLIC.

TO THE TEABAGGERS AND RIGHT WING NUT JOBS: YOU LOST THE WHITE HOUSE LAST YEAR, AND YOU ARE HEADED FOR ANOTHER LOSS OF GARGANTUAN PROPORTIONS IF THE U.S. DEFAULTS AND WE HEAD INTO ANOTHER RECESSION BECAUSE YOU REFUSE TO ACCEPT THIS REALITY: YOU DON'T SPEAK FOR THE MAJORITY OF THE COUNTRY. REPUBS ARE BEING BLAMED BY A MARGIN TWICE THAT OF PRESIDENT OBAMA FOR THIS SHUTDOWN AND POTENTIAL DEFAULT. YOU ARE GOING TO LOSE THIS BATTLE TO HIM JUST LIKE YOU LOST LAST YEAR AND YOU ARE GOING TO KEEP ON LOSING TO HIM BECAUSE THE MAJORITY OF THIS COUNTRY TRUST HIM MORE THAN THEY DO TEABAGGERS AND RIGHT WING NUT JOBS TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT FOR THIS COUNTRY.

Ever since the desegregation era I have had a sinking feeling, exaggerated by the recent behavior of the opponents of ACA and President Obama, that there is a thread in the nation that is composed of closet racists seeking an overthrow of the US government. This idea is reinforced by the widespread display of the confederate flag and the bumper stickers saying "Hell no we ain't forgetting" especially among "skinheads."

I thought and hoped that we were a step up from "The Troubles" of Northern Ireland. However, this weekend, a tea party group showed up at the Nation's Capitol with confederate flags flying front and center, and calls for the overthrow of the elected government. Various scurrilous epithets were tossed around, along with one reflecting religious bigotry containing false allegations such as "get the Koran out of the White house," etc.

I've heard no spokesperson for the splintered tea party stand up and disavow these acts; therefore I must conclude they do in fact represent the objectives of this small minority of persons, including the minuscule local minority of anti-American pro-tea partiers who are posting on this site.

Don't talk about the USA, or expect accommodation unless you are willing to call out those promoting anarchy or revolt opposing the rule of law; are willing seek its change by lawful methods and abide by the majority rule if you disagree, or stand up for your beliefs in nonviolent opposition such as refusing to pay your taxes and let the chips fall where they may. (After all what is a few months in jail for your principles?)

There should be no question about the motives of the tea party, it is a Curtis LeMay-type makeover of the John Birch Society, an effort to make "Atlas Shrugged" the rule of the nation wherein we get rid of poverty by simply crushing those who are disadvantaged or non-caucasian.

There are no patriots among them.

rickaroohoneybooboo, and fellow Obamadontcare pom pom shakers!

Darlings, please let me help you make sense. Oblamadontcare does not help everyone that cannot afford insurance premiums. There are millions of families that have health insurance plans approved by the big dunce, provided by their employer that covers the employee at a somewhat reasonable cost. The problem is the benefit extended to the family thru the plan. The cost is prohibitive to the couples and so they will continue to live their lives without health insurance as Obamadontcare does not provide subsidies to these folks who have an approved Obamadontcare healthcare plan available to them. Nothing has changed for these families. Let me correct myself. Something has changed. The cost for the insurance has gone up. The interesting question is if one spouse in a family has health coverage and the other does not do they have to pay the penalty? You folks are either living in a vacuum or just like alpo, you hold your fingers in your ears and continue to mumble, la la la, I can't hear you. Yes indeed a very close relative to the ostrich! Only not a rare breed at all. And the scary part is that they continue to breed at alarming rates.

And in the year 2013, with a computer based enrollment system, the health care exchange, paid for entirely by the United States TAXPAYER, for some unknown reason no one can provide real time enrollment figures for this wonderful Obamadontcare. Now how can this be. We have a national debt clock that calculates everything that affects our daily lives, present & future but this White House Bozo Obama cannot provide any numbers concerning enrollment whether partially completed or completed applications. So just how bad of an idea could this legacy to the Great Gazoo be? This is all about ego folks, not economics. Take your fingers out of your ears and pay very close attention. Your future depends on it.

Yes, the system was not as prepared as it should have been for the number of applicants trying to get in and Yes, there are people working around the clock to fix those problems. Eventually the problems will be fixed if they have to hire every computer geek from Apple, Microsoft and the Geek Squad of every Best Buy Store in America. It will get fixed.

As for President Obama's legacy, one thing is certain like Social Security is not known as FDR Security and Medicare is not known as LBJCare when the Affordable Care Act becomes as accepted as Social Security and Medicare it will no longer carry the name Obama in front of it.

How long will Social Security Disability be financially solvent?

With the number of boomers entering the entitlement stage of their lives and living much longer than expected will Social Security be available as promised. And what about Medicare.

As for Obozo Care, it will always be called exactly that and within a year even you faithful followers will be crying for the repeal of this asinine law. I am amazed that people on here post the reason people need to work overtime is because of low wages. Have you not noticed everything has escalated in price except income? Ever wonder why? Could it be the Asian market being able to manufacture without high labor costs? By not providing benefits? Have you ever heard of a thing called competition and the Free Market? How about Corporate America? "In Asian Countries of course."

We can give everything to people who feel they are owed something or we can expect every able bodied citizen to do their part to help themselves. Being charitable to the people who are truly in need is one thing. America does this and has for generations. Allowing people who can work to benefit from another persons labor is simply wrong and not sustainable. The message to future generations is don't worry be happy and lazy. The government will provide for your needs. We are close to the end with all these wonderful programs as we have allowed the cost to rise above any ability to pay for the programs.

If you fail to see Chicken Little running around in a frenzy screaming, "The sky is falling" any chance to survive this crisis in tact is doubtful. Please do the math and see for yourself!

It is hard to win any election if you do not promise free stuff like the dummycrats do. These people that are being promised free stuff and taking it from others couldn't care less about the debt or the country going into a depression as living at the bottom is a way of life for them. They have also gotten used to not working and are finding out it is not that bad being poor in America. America has the wealthiest poor people in the world. So of course the conservatives will continue to loose as long as lazy, stupid, irresponsible people are allowed to vote for free stuff. People in America are paid what they are worth. if you want to be paid more then make yourself worth more. But that is to hard for the victims that are to lazy to get up off their a$$ and accomplish more for themselves.

This so good that I am going to post it in installments so that it will slowly sink in for Liberals:

“A few days ago, Mr. Ramsey decided to share his wisdom with people of all political affiliations on how the Obamacare legislation would affect every American, no matter their political beliefs.”

"You’re not exempt from math if you’re a Republican, and you’re not exempt from math if you’re a Democrat. You’re not exempt from math if you’re a liberal, and you’re not exempt from math if you’re a conservative. You still have to do math."

And you have summed up so simply why teabaggers and Repubs want to suppress the vote. You think if you can keep poor people and minorities from voting you can force them off the face of the earth because in your small minds they are just "FREELOADERS" not really interested in who governs the country or what they stand for. No, in your minds all they are interested in is FREE STUFF.

It doesn't bother people like you to take away or put obstacles in the way of people exercising the privilege of voting. The Voting Rights Act might have been gutted by the USSC and states (like Tennessee and others) can create all kinds of obstacles to people being able to legitimately cast their votes but it's not going to stop the lines and people's determination to vote. The Teabaggers and Right Wing Nuts will lose this one too. It just might take Eric Holder a little longer but state by state, he's coming after them and the voting lines won't get shorter.

Great cartoon Clay, and WHOA MAN it’s certainly apropos.

I like many have issues with the ACA and by and large mine differ with most all of the objections of the right wing. I have found that many of the arguments espoused here are nothing but minutia mixed with absurd supposition/assumptions and fact free claims (perfect examples being: ”Bill Clinton and Barney Frank FORCED banks and other lending institutes to lend money to individuals for home loans who couldn't afford to pay for them.” And all of a 12:58PM post), the problem is most dullards regurgitating such offal just repeat the RW noise machine verbatim and refuse to SEE what is really happening or what THEY are taking from us, (see Jesse’s October 11th 2:37 p.m. post and link) when they wish to shut down the USPS, public schools, parks, libraries, transportation, hospitals and transfer natural resources; They are disassembling our our public estates,ie.what WE built; and are setting us up for giveaways or, to be sold off to the Banks, energy and/or developer interests.

Ask yourself. WHO does this benefit??

Corporatism - the ultimate goal of the .01% and the GOP pulling along an unwitting and willfully ignorant Tea Party.

However,

While Ibshame’s claim regarding Obama’s legacy has merit and I hope it is seen as such, I believe Barack Obama's true legacy will be one of the absolute collusion with Wall Street, the banking cartels, the fossil fuel industries (Keystone XL is a done deal by the way), the EIC (enemy industrial complex), systematic dismantling of the first amendment and a security/surveillance state that would even make former drones of the ‘Ministerium für Staatssicherheit’ gasp.

One day through incessant propaganda disguised as entertainment, America became a land of the entranced vidiots who live on a certain kind of flower.

”Here we landed to take in fresh water, and our crews got their mid-day meal on the shore near the ships. When they had eaten and drunk I sent two of my company to see what manner of men the people of the place might be, and they had a third man under them. They started at once, and went about among the Lotus-eaters, who did them no hurt, but gave them to eat of the lotus, which was so delicious that those who ate of it left off caring about home, and did not even want to go back and say what had happened to them, but were for staying with the Lotus-eaters without thinking further of their return; nevertheless, though they wept bitterly, I forced them back to the ships and made them fast under the benches. Then I told the rest to go on board at once, lest any of them should taste of the lotus and leave off wanting to get home, so they took their places and smote the grey sea with their oars." ~from The ‘Odyssey’

And thus we are devolving, or have already devolved-- with no Odysseus to force us out of our stupor.

Oh, OK I get it. In your mind and that of the author of your installments the healthy shouldn't have to pay more for the habits of the unhealthy. That's just not fair right? The innocent shouldn't have to pay for the "sins" of the reckless who gourged themselves and ended up having diabetes, heart trouble and cancer. Why should the healthy have to pay the same as they do right? Hmmm and you're ok with that because that is the GREAT SIN OF OBAMACARE. So if the innocent should never have to pay for the "sins" of the guilty then Christ should never have HAD TO DIE ON THE CROSS. After all, supposedly he was sent here to pay for the sins of Adam and Eve. He didn't eat that fruit and play around with the serpent and then try to hide in the garden with a fig leaf on to cover his naked body. Why should he have had to be sent to Earth to pay for the sins of those two? See two can play the game of why should I pay for someone else's troubles.

ib,

Where are your facts that there are more people who don't take advantage of the system then do? Love to see some numbers.

Again we have a group who claim they are not able to find gainful employment. Perhaps our failing education system is a contributing factor. Perhaps it is people like yourself who pity people who continue to make poor choices in their life instead of making an effort to learn a skill that will lead them to a good paying job and wish to reward them for their lack of effort. It does take time and effort if you are not aware of the secret potion. There are Pell Grants galore, taxpayer funded for those who fell thru the so called cracks during high school that many people use to start a new endeavor and for some reason find it to difficult to attend classes religiously. Waste not want not. SSI disability is a program that is about to exhaust its funding and with numbers being enrolled finding sanctuary in this bailout program the people who are currently involved with the program receiving help, especially children, may have to go without opportunities to provide them with support and higher education all because we have older Americans who claim no one will hire them at the wage they desire. This system at the current pace is another doomed political promise no one can keep. Unless Congress says to borrow more money we do not have to hand out to people who are in need or want.

No one wishes to go back to the 50's. I don't know where you get that but I would be happy to return to 1980's or 90's where a dollar bought something. Wages have been stagnant or declined since then and prices have continued to skyrocket including healthcare even since Obozo Care was enacted. Again, do the math and let us know what you find.

They’re going to pay out to the medical community more per person than they ever have before… what they pay out per person is how your premium is determined – plus profit.”

“Everyone is going to be charged the same. Translation you are going to pay higher premiums to keep the insurance company open, so they don’t go broke. Because they are now going to have to cover people that they didn’t have to cover before… sick people.”

“It’s a nice moral imperative, but it doesn’t change the math.”

That math, that neutral unbiased math kicks in and that means YOUR premiums are going up. Who lied when he/they said your cost would not go up?

Canadian Born teabagger Ted Cruz wouldn't know the truth if it walked up and slapped him in his lying mouth. If you honestly think anyone fears him then like the rest of the teabaggers your head is in the clouds. He's a loser and about the only place he can win is in his home state of Texas. If The majority of the people in this country didn't fall for Mitt Romney's lies what makes any teabagger think they would fall for Ted Cruz's lies to get into the White House. He's like a modern day Joe McCarthy, it's all over for him but he just doesn't know it yet. LOL

Most of the country is probably still wondering why he waited until this year to GIVE UP HIS CANADIAN CITIZENSHIP. LOL

For the record I admire people who are willing to supply people like you with FACTS AND NUMBERS but I've learned from being on this forum for almost two years your kind never ACCEPTS those FACTS OR FIGURES because you always have some right wing nut job like Rush or Hannity or some other kook out there pumping your head with the belief that REAL FACTS AND FIGURES can't be believed. You know like NOT BELIEVING IN CLIMATE CHANGE OR BELIEVING THE EARTH IS ONLY 6000 YEARS OLD and even when the facts and figures DISPUTE your claims you still go your merry way intent to believe what you want. I choose not to engage in a waste of my time supplying you with any FACTS OR FIGURES THAT YOU WILL IGNORE AND CONTINUE TO BELIEVE AS YOU DO.

Right now there are teabaggers out there who honestly believe if the U.S. govt. defaults on its debts it won't hurt anything. Even though there are right leaning economists who are saying just the opposite. They don't want to accept reality.

Your comments are pretty much the same you are unwilling to believe there are people out there who are not trying to rip the govt. off, they are not trying to live off of other people and they are doing the very best they can to keep their heads above the water. So don't expect ANY NUMBERS FROM ME.

And guess who controls the purse strings out of those three branches.

If as you state the House controls the purse strings then why are the Senate and Obama defying the funding bills they have passed? Or could it be that all three are responsible for the level and function of funding. That in divided government the threat of shutdown is the negotiating equivalent of the veto threat. Why should one be more acceptable than the other?

There are many highly toxic realities that populate our daily lives. Many of them taken in moderation are very beneficial to our well being but taken in excess are lethal.

I remember Rick Perry, couldn't even remember all the ones he planned on dismantling if the GOP won the White House.

You mean like Obama stating that he often forgets the "magnitude" of the recession.

[President Lyndon Johnson created a bill that gave the responsibility of setting and enforcing labor standards to the Secretary of Labor. Johnson's bill never reached Congress. In 1969, President Nixon created legislation that had the same goals--federal oversight of workplace standards. Nixon's bill was passed after a vigorous battle. In December, he signed the Occupational and Safety Health Act of 1970. It was three years since the beginning of Johnson's bill and nearly a century after Massachusetts's factory inspection law.]

By KIMBERLEY A. STRASSEL:

Upon taking the House in 2010, Republicans made clear their top priority was getting the nation's spending and debt under control—a goal backed by the vast majority of the country—and they meant it. Time and again, they have asked the White House to work with them to reform the very entitlement programs that Mr. Obama has admitted are unsustainable and the primary drivers of debt.

So yes, Mr. Obama is facing another crisis—one of his own timing and making. And one that the White House and Democrats have understood was coming ever since 2011. And one that will be coming again—two weeks from now, six weeks from now, a year from now, three months after that—until such point as the White House does a significant deal, or the president's term ends. It is entirely the president's choice.

Republicans demand fiscal discipline. Whatever the near-term solution to this current impasse, the media and Democrats are deluded if they think the GOP will give up this issue. It is built into the Republican DNA; it is a baseline expectation of party voters. Republicans will continue to use whatever tools are available—government funding bills, debt-ceiling hikes, unrelated legislation—to force Democrats to cut, and they'll do it again and again.

But Mr. Obama doesn't face re-election. He faces three years of trying to govern.

Another financial downturn will be remembered in the history books as President Obama's, not as some no-name GOP backbencher's.

“Translation. Your health insurance premiums are going to go WAY up. They HAVE to. It’s not that I’m mad about it, it’s not a political statement. It’s that I know how to do math.”

“Your premium went way up, your employer paying them might affect your raise. It might even affect the stability of your job because they might not be able to pay everybody, because they have higher costs of operating now… you paid for it, it’s called a pass-through, you’re going to pay for it.”

Your hours might even be cut so that you are now part time and the Socialist monkey of your health care will be off your employer’s back.

You say that is happening now. Who would have imagined that?

Are you suggesting things were better for people needing a break back in the 50's? Why do you then slam the teabaggers for wanting to return to that? You need to run for office, you talk like a politician.

Let’s do a little side by side comparison. There have been two gathering in D.C. lately; one was our military vets protesting their being denied visiting their monuments and the other was illegal aliens demanding amnesty for their illegal acts. The Conservatives showed up to support the vets and the Fleabaggers showed up to support the illegals. Very telling indeed.

I am waiting to see how 30-50 million more people are going to get healthcare insurance and if they are a 4 people family with income under $94,000 get a subsidy that increases as the income number becomes lower. Someone help me understand how that is going to make insurance cheaper for all and healthcare less expensive? A crooked accountant would struggle to make those numbers work.

Why do politically correct Liberals think the confederate flag has anything to do with racism. The civil war wasn't about slavery as much as it was about states rights.Honest Abe was about centralized federal government.Slavery was a horrible ,horrible thing but was used as an excuse to fight a war that cost 750 thousand lives and pitted family versus family. You bunch of Libtards supported occupy Wallstreet but want to demonize TEA PARTY members who clean up after rallies and don't have people being raped, drugs or people defacating on police cars.If the confederate flag offends some people then they don't understand what it stood for.

As conservative columnist Diane Francis said in the National Post, the economy was wrecked by the Bush Administration and its owners. These are the very people who are now screaming about the rising debt.

Of course the debt is rising! We were saddled with unaffordable tax cuts and a neglected infrastructure, both public and private sector. The bills arrived after the election, but this money was spent years ago.

When the Republicans decided to join their corporate masters and allow every manufacturing center in this country to rot into obsolescence they doomed us to this expense. We all know that of you don't maintain your vehicle you must replace it later at a higher cost. We are now rebuilding the entire ship of state.

This is the Bush legacy. Shame on you for denying it, and shame on us for allowing it to happen

What’s the deal with copying and posting items found at Yahoo Answers written by someone named David from 4 years ago? That seems to show a great bit of desperation in your gathering of Teabagger talking points.

You know .... the Fleabagger communists that sh!t on the side of cars, rape their female comrades, turn public areas into superfund toxic waste sites, etc and that's just their personal hygiene. And for all of you non-history believers. Here's how it works: We still blame Hitler for Germany's mess. According to your reasoning, we should now be blaming Andrea Merkel.

I guess we would if she came into office and instead of stopping the gas chambers she added another 12 million soles to the death count. It’s not a perfect analogy but it got the message across ... didn’t it?

I blame the German people of that era and their elected representatives that didn't step up and stop Hitler when they had the chance early on in his regime... You know what I mean?

Millions of Germans smelled the burning flesh and chose to ignore it because they deeply bought into Hitler's anti-Semitism. Apparently the same mindset is alive here in the USA. God help us.

You say, "the Civil War was not about slavery. Please, where were you in HS hiytory class? No fat-cat plantation owner wanted to give up his SLAVES. To say it was a States' Rights argument is exactly true. We settled it long ago, because "states rights" allows a state to impose on its citizens regardless of constitutionally protected rights, things like slavery.

I do not know what country to refer you, because even China and Russia refute state's rights.
