1 suspect found dead, 1 alive after Georgia cafe shootout

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. - Police say they've located two suspects - one dead and one alive - after a robbery attempt at a Chinese restaurant. The crime led to a shootout that wounded an employee.

Authorities say two masked men entered the back door of the China Cafe in Fayette County after closing late Friday and held three employees at gunpoint.

A 26-year-old suspect was arrested Monday, Fayetteville police Lt. Mike Whitlow told WSB Radio.

That suspect then led police to an abandoned home in Morrow, where they found the body of a second suspect, Whitlow said. Police say the dead suspect had been shot in the head by one of the restaurant employees, who police say was defending himself and his co-workers.

"When you have incidents of this nature and this much violence and this seriousness of nature, sooner and later, they're going to run into somebody who is going to defend themselves and that's exactly what happened," Whitlow said.

Police say one of the employees wounded by gunfire remained in critical condition at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Police are still searching for a third suspect.
