Business Briefs: Veterans job fair planned Thursday

Veterans job fair planned Thursday

Job fairs are scheduled Thursday at 13 sites across Tennessee to help veterans find jobs with major employers in the state. The “Paychecks for Patriots” will include a job fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday at Chattanooga State Community College Center for Business, Industry and Health Building at 4501 Amnicola Highway. Employers hiring vets include Dollar General, Fed Ex, HCA, Walden Security, Regions Bank and T-Mobile, among others. Employers will have representatives on-site who will be accepting resumes or referring applicants to online applications.

“I want to thank our service members for all that they do overseas and back here at home, and I’m happy the state could partner with local employers and help in this important effort,” Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam said.

New York Times rebrands paper

The New York Times Co. is rebranding its Paris-based daily, the International Herald Tribune, as the International New York Times — a bid to lure readers abroad amid the upheaval of the digital era facing traditional newspapers.

Executives said the rechristening today aims to get the most out of its brand, and complete a gradual fusion of the newspapers’ editorial staffs in recent years. The Times took control of the IHT a decade ago by buying the stake of its co-owner, The Washington Post. Worldwide subscribers to the Herald Tribune — with a print circulation of 224,000 and distribution in about 135 countries — were waking up today to a similar-looking newspaper. Novelties include a new masthead, enhanced Page 2, and opinion pieces by dozens of new international columnists.
