NASHVILLE - U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., raised another $837,857 between July 1 and Sept. 30, his campaign said today.

That brings to $3.88 million the amount that Alexander has raised this year. He reported $2.8 million in cash on hand.

Alexander faces state Rep. Joe Carr, R-Lascassas, in the GOP's 2014 Senate primary. Carr has not released his figures yet.

Today is the third quarter filing deadline, but the normal filing process has upended. That's due to the Federal Election Commission being largely shuttered because of the continuing partial federal government shutdown.
