Scammers target EPB customers

Scam artists are targeting EPB customers in Chattanooga, the utility says. Imposters pretending to be with the Chattanoga utility are calling business customers and claiming that immediate payment must be made to prevent their power from being disconnected, according to a news release. The scammers have instructed businesses to purchase a MoneyPak reloadable debit card at Walmart, Walgreens, CVS or Rite Aid, then call back with the account number.

"This is a scam," the company wrote in a news release. "EPB never calls customers asking for payments to be made with prepaid debit cards."

Wrigley wins Green award

Wrigley has been recognized by Keep America Beautiful for reducing its carbon emissions, encouraging employees to recycle and seeking sustainable ingrediants and suppliers. Bruce Verburg, director of the company's Chattanooga factory, said sustainability and environmental stewardship are key to Wrigley's operations.

"Our Chattanooga factory is one of the first to incorporate solar energy into its operations and has significantly reduced waste," Verburg said.

Wrigley, a subsidiary of Mars Inc., recently completed a $23.1 million expansion in Chattanooga, as it celebrated the 100th year of its Life Savers brand. The company on Thursday accepted the 2013 Vision for America award at the Drake Hotel in Chicago from Keep America Beautiful.
