Golf Mocs tied for third in Greensboro and other sports news

With defending champion Chris Robb again strong in the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate tournament at Greensboro, N.C., the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's team is tied for third with 10th-ranked Virginia Tech going into the final round today. Robb is third individually at 2-under-par 70, and Ewan Scott is tied for fourth at 71 with Wes Gosselin sharing 22nd place at 74 and Stuart Thomas (playing as an individual), Davis Bunn and Liam Johnston at 75, 76 and 77. North Carolina leads at 288 on the Grandover Resort East Course, and UNC Greensboro is at 290. The teams were supposed to play 36 holes Saturday but played only one round. "There was a heavy frost that delayed the start nearly three hours," Mocs coach Mark Guhne explained in a UTC release. "I am pleased with our start. Chris played really well -- really well."

Running

• Led by individual winner Anthony Simpson, the NAIA's 13th-ranked Bryan College men's cross country team won the Sand Shark Invitational meet Saturday at Hardeeville, S.C., with No. 11 Emmanuel second, No. 16 Embry-Riddle third and No. 21 Tennessee Wesleyan fourth. Simpson ran the 8 kilometers in a personal-best 24:41.95, and teammates Jason McLeod, Connor Hatfield, Alex Stephens and Tyler Boone were fourth, seventh, 11th and 22nd. Bryan's Hannah Schroeder was 22nd in the women's 5k with Michelle McLeod seven seconds behind her. Bryan will host the AAC meet on Nov. 9.

• Red Bank High School running coach Hugh Enicks of Signal Mountain finished second in his 50-54 age group and eighth overall (40-over) in the USA Track and Field Masters national 15-kilometer road race championships Saturday in Tulsa, Okla. Enicks ran the 9.3 miles in 54 minutes, 21 seconds.

• Brown Middle School teacher and running coach Geno Phillips won the Signal Mountain Pie Run 10-kilometer race Saturday morning in 35 minutes, 52 seconds and had the third best time prediction with his 35:48 estimate. Sarah Powe nailed her 47:30 finish with her prediction, and Russell Rogers was second with a 43:45 prediction and a 43:46 finish. Andy Highlander was the second finisher in 36:46, followed by Peyton Miller in 36:52 and Ryan Shrum in 37:01, and Jessica Marlier and Amanda Tate led the women with fifth- and eighth-place times of 37:24 and 40:00.

Soccer

• The NAIA's third-ranked men's soccer team, Lindsey Wilson, won 3-2 in overtime at No. 21 Bryan College on Saturday, as Yazeed Davids scored from a Keletso Mosime assist 14:10 into extra time. Xavier Baumgart had the two earlier goals for the Kentucky team, while Daniel Branley and Zach McCown assisted each other on the Lions' goals. Josh Oldroyd made seven saves for Bryan (12-3), which was outshot 24-9.

• The Bryan women's soccer team fell to 5-9-1 with a 5-0 loss at Campbellsville. The Lady Lions were outshot 39-4 and outcornered 14-3 but got 18 saves from Stephanie Gagnon.

Football

• Tennessee Titans radio play-by-play announcer Mike Keith will be the guest speaker for the Chattanooga Quarterback Club's noon luncheon meeting Monday at Finley Stadium, and the public is invited. Attendance costs $10 with a meal, $4 without. Keith lived in Chattanooga during part of his youth.

Field Hockey

• Shelby Perkins' goal in the second overtime gave Transylvania a 5-4 SAA field hockey win Saturday at Sewanee, which led 2-0 in the early minutes on goals by Karen Dawson and Carrie Anderson and went up 4-1 on scores by Kya Wence and Dawson. But Transy scored the last four goals, including the second and third of the match by Sydney Katz, who also had two assists. Sewanee (7-5, 2-3) dominated 45-15 in shots and 18-3 in corners, but Sara Aschbacher made 22 saves for the Pioneers (7-9, 3-4). Maggie Boozer, Anderson and Kat Mulligan had assists for the Tigers.
