Obamacare deemed another entitlement

Obamacare is a mistake. It's not cheaper for the middle class and will only make the "poor class" more lazy and "entitled."

Why should I have to pay for someone else's health insurance? Why should anyone?

It will also make health care of worse quality. Let's get rid of the whole thing. We don't need it, and we don't want it!

Shutdown not all tea party fault

I felt compelled to comment on the recent Times editorial: "The shutdown was not a 'good fight."

My first impression was surprise over the vitriolic adjectives used to describe the tea party and the GOP. Attacking the opposition with labels of "anarchist" and "radical" is a tactic straight from Saul Alinsky's manifesto that seems to be the modus operandi of today's liberals - demonize but don't argue on the basis of fact or logic. Where would our country be today if our Founding Fathers were swayed by similar verbal attacks by Tories and Loyalists?

My second impression was over the irony represented by the list of GOP bills and proposals receiving a "NO" response. Many of the GOP propositions listed were strongly supported by the American public and were logical proposals designed to bring fairness, create jobs, and improve the economy. Yet the Senate majority leader refused to bring any of the House bills to a vote and the President steadfastly refused to negotiate on any proposal. The editorials and the mainstream media continue to accuse the GOP as the "party of NO." Go figure.

Newbies, statesmen and the shutdown

Before their election, many Republicans in Congress today have had no experience in government, are not and never have been interested in world affairs, history, economics, political science, or anything beyond their own lives, opinions, and prejudices. They shut down our government and the nation suffered. They threatened to ruin the country's credit and standing among nations. They wanted to stop the world, get off, and take the rest of us with them because they find the world is too complicated and frightening. These are the people President Obama had to negotiate with. Successful negotiating requires two reasonable, informed, and well intentioned sides. House Republicans brought nothing but stubborn hatred to the table. And yet President Obama persevered in his efforts to teach them by example how great statesmen behave.

Let's make affordable health care happen

As T. R. Reid clearly explained in his outstanding book, The Healing of America, a universal health care system is a moral question. We have an ethical obligation, as a matter of justice, to assure everyone access to medical care when it's needed. Yes, you are your brother's keeper. Let us all cooperate to make affordable health care successful.
