NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A Nashville police detective has been placed on administrative leave after officials say he inadvertently shot a man in the ankle while making an arrest.

The Tennessean reported that Det. Charles McEachron's AR-15 rifle went off as he arrested 25-year-old Genaro Novarro Pascual on Sunday night. Police say Pascual was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in stable condition.

Police say McEachron strapped the rifle to his chest before the arrest. He will remain on leave pending an internal investigation.

McEachron had been responding to reports of a man firing a gun Sunday night. During a struggle, police say, McEachron's rifle discharged, striking Pascual in the ankle.

Police filed warrants against Pascual, including for possession of a firearm while intoxicated, alteration of a firearm serial number and resisting arrest.
