Sentencing hearing continues in Alabama inmate death

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - A sentencing hearing enters its fourth day for four former prison system employees who either participated in the fatal beating of an inmate or helped cover it up.

U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson plans to hear from more witnesses today concerning the beating death of Rocrast Mack at a state prison in Clayton in 2010.

Former prison supervisor Michael Smith could face up to life in prison. The other three face lesser sentences.

One of the defendants, Joseph Sanders, voluntarily took the witness stand Wednesday in Montgomery to apologize to Mack's family for telling lies to cover up what happened.
