Commissioner Larry Henry formally announced today he would seek the office being vacated by Circuit Court Clerk Paula Thompson.

Henry said his 39 years of experience and business and nearly 12 years on the Hamilton County Commission qualify him for the clerk's position.

"I am confident in my ability to handle these issues appropriately based on my experience in business and government," Henry said.

Even though he is seeking the new position, Henry said he would "continue to effectively and diligently serve my constituents in District 7."

On Monday, Board of Education Chairman Mike Evatt announced his candidacy for the seat.

Candidates may pick up qualifying papers for county races on Nov. 22. The deadline for qualifying is Feb. 20. County primary elections will be held May 6. The county general election will be held Aug. 7.
