East Ridge police were called about 7 p.m. Tuesday to 3832 Kingwood Circle on a report of a pedestrian struck.

Police discovered that an adult and 1-year-old child were standing between two vehicles in front of the residence while another family member attempted to move one of the vehicles, according to a news release.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the driver did not realize the vehicle was in reverse and accidentally backed into the adult and child, according to the report.

The adult suffered an injury to his right leg, and the juvenile received serious injury. The juvenile was transported to Children's Hospital at Erlanger by ambulance, according to the news release.

The incident is under investigation by East Ridge Police Traffic Division.
