Georgia's fifth-year senior quarterback was named Thursday as the Maxwell Award player of the week as a result of completing 17 of 23 passes (73.9 percent) for 309 yards and four touchdowns against the Gamecocks. Murray also was the Walter Camp national offensive player of the week, CollegeFootballPerformanceAward.com's national performer of the week and, for the third time in his career, the Southeastern Conference offensive player of the week.
"I thought it was one of his better games just being on," offensive coordinator Mike Bobo said. "He's usually on with where to go with the ball and the decisions he makes, but I thought his accuracy was at a very high level in the game, and he had to be. We knew we were going to throw the ball quick and get rid of the ball, and when we threw the ball we wanted to complete it at a high percentage and try to control the game, not just with our running game, but with our short passing game.
"We were able to do that."
That was the ninth time Murray has thrown at least four TD passes in a game, and it was the fifth time he had thrown for that many scores while also completing at least 70 percent. The 6-foot-1, 208-pounder from Tampa, Fla., leads all active FBS quarterbacks with 99 career TD passes, and he is 15 short of matching the SEC career record held by former Florida quarterback Danny Wuerffel.
When asked if the South Carolina game was the best in Murray's career, Bobo said, "It's one of them. I think he plays good every week."
The No. 9 Bulldogs held a 75-minute workout Thursday in jerseys, shorts and helmets. They will have this weekend off before beginning preparations Monday for next week's game against North Texas.
"We got done what we needed to do this week," head coach Mark Richt said, "and we're looking forward to playing ball again next week."
The Georgia-North Texas game will be televised by SEC TV, formerly the SEC Network, with a 12:21 p.m. kickoff.
