Chattanooga teenager Blakesley Warren is one of the three golfers representing Tennessee in the 2013 USGA Women's State Team Championship being held Tuesday through Thursday at Kettering, Ohio. Baylor School senior Warren, a two-time state Girls' Junior Amateur champion who just won her third City Prep Championship, will join Franklin's Courtney Wood Chandler and Nashville's Corrina Rees at the NCR Country Club--South Course. Chandler is a former Vanderbilt standout who won the state Women's Open in 2002 and 2005 and played professionally starting in 2004; she regained her amateur status in 2009 and was this year's Tennessee Women's Amateur runner-up. Rees, a former University of Arkansas player, was second overall in the 2013 state Women's Open. The Women's State Team nationals have been held every two years starting in 1995, and Tennessee finished second in 1999, 2007 and 2011. Each state's two best scores count for each round in 54-hole stroke play.
• The 2013 Tennessee Senior Amateur Championship at Hillwood Country Club in Nashville was interrupted by stormy weather Thursday afternoon and left the second round incomplete. The Super Senior division got finished, though, and Loudon's Jim Brown made a move with a 69 after his opening 82. That put him three shots behind first-round leader Jack Ramsey, who maintained a one-shot lead over Dan Schorsten as they matched 76s in round two. The tournament concludes today.
• Jeffrey Dodd and Brent Sizemore of Calhoun and Randy Bowman of Summerville are among the 111 golfers entered in the Georgia Public Links Championship this Saturday and Sunday at Legacy on Lanier at Lake Lanier Island. All three are in the championship flight. Participants cannot have been members this year of clubs that don't allow public play.
Soccer
• The Lee University women's soccer home opener tonight at 6 against Emory University has an added dimension. It's the Lady Flames' annual "Kickin' It for Kids With Cancer" match, and the last two have brought in more than $50,000 for the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer. "We are good friends with Amy Jo and Jim Osborn, who lost their son Austin Hatcher to pediatric cancer, and we wanted to help them promote this great cause," Lee coach Matt Yelton said in a school release. "Not only did we want to raise money for the foundation; we wanted to also help raise awareness to what the foundation is doing." The Lady Flames and Emory's Eagles tied 1-1 last year in Atlanta, and the series record is 1-1-1.
Special Olympics
• The Area Special 4 Special Olympics Equestrian Games will be held Saturday at the Tri State Exhibition Center in Cleveland. The competition is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon.
